    Hey bit-techers,

    Time for some spot-research. We want to know about your digital camera habits. The forum polling system only supports one question, so please start by selecting the camera brand(s) you own.

    It would be very helpful if you could also take 2 minutes to post a reply below with as much detail as you can about your camera(s).

    For example:
    • Is your camera a compact (eg Canon PowerShot) or a dSLR (eg Nikon D70) or maybe you own both?
    • How much do you spend on cameras & accessories (eg lens) each year?
    • How often do you upgrade to a new model?

    * Compact Pentax OptioWP (Waterproof digital), 5mp, 3x optical, 4x digital zoom.
    * Costed me just under £300 including accessories in Januyary 2006.
    * Spent pretty much nowt. I buy a memory card, case and 2 batteries and keep that for the lifetime of the camera. I've done that for the last 3 cameras.
    * Every 2/3 yrs (2001 - 2003 - 2006).

    Sorry Orb - didn't realise the post was visible while I was creating the poll code.

    I think MrWillyWonka has given a good response. In that light, I own:

    * Canon S60 5MP compact
    * Cost me £300 in July 2004.
    * Owned an Olympus mju300 compact before that.
    * Thinking of upgrading between now and Christmas

    * Casio Exilim Z600 (compact)
    * I went for a 1GB Ultra 2 SD card when I bought the camera (mm Jessops discount), also took out the Photo+ protection plan on it (I'll probably break it, was deffo worth £20)
    * This is my first model so far. Will probably keep it a long while :)

    * My camera isn't really compact, but it's not a dSLR either... It's a FujiFilm S602 Zoom.

    * I bought a tripod, decent camera bag, a couple of 1GB memory cards and a few sets of batteries - I think the camera plus accessories cost me around £300 since I first bought the camera. I'm looking into getting a flash gun at some point too.

    * I've been looking for a new camera for a while now but I'm undecided - I guess the upgrade cycle is every couple of years.

    Canon EOS 300D (DSLR)
    Minolta X700 (SLR)
    Canon PowerShot A510 (Compact)

    Have spent maybe £100 on accessories since I got my DSLR (bags, cards, filters, etc) and will be grabbing a couple of lenses before I go on holiday in August.

    Don't have the intention/money to upgrade to another body any time soon.

    * Canon dSLR, with a tiny little sony compact for when the need arises
    * Last year spent around £800, this year, will spend around £600 after this year then don't have much of a need to spend more.
    * Can't see the need for an upgrade for a good few years yet. The (main) camera before lasted 4 years.

    Canon EOS 300D (dSLR)
    Canon PowerShot A70 (Compact)

    I've spent around £200 on accessories since getting the dSLR just over 2 years ago (cards, filters, lenses, tripod, bag, etc.). Hoping to get some more lenses soon, although I generally get second-hand lenses (LCE) as they are just so expensive new.

    No intention of upgrading the DSLR for a good while yet.

    Canon EOS 350D (DSLR)
    Canon Powershot A95 (compact)

    * I've spent next to nothing on accessories for the Powershot, but have invested a lot into lenses for the DSLR - but since the body will last years and years the spend/year will be low since I don't really plan to buy any more lenses now.

    * See above point :D

    I own an Olympus Stylus 600 and a Nikon D70. I do not buy any accessories or lenses for either, although I originally bought several lenses for my D70. I only upgrade to a new model when my current one breaks.

    Nikon D50 (dSLR) - 6.1mp with three lenses: 50mm prime f1.8/28-75mm Tamron f2.8/70-200mm Sigma DX APO f2.8 - 1.4x teleconverter. 2x 1GB SD and 2x 512GB memory, spare batteries, bags, etc etc
    Canon A70 - compact piece of crap
    Panasonic FZ20 - ultrazoom 5mp
    Panasonic FZ30 - ultrazoom 8mp
    Casio EX-P505 - gave to the wife - she loves it

    Probably spend about $2K/yer - the jump to dSLR has skewed the average a bit. I'm planning on getting the Nikon D200 in the next month or so.
