It's been suggested, in another thread, that there should be a thread, for those times when something is not life ruining or awesome, just meh.

    So, yer t'is.

I've just made a soda scone, which came out alright, maybe a bit meh? Tastes ok but too stodgy, reading the BBC Good Food comments, everyone is slating it for having too much buttermilk. I'm inclined to agree.

Finishing the washing up only to venture in to my sons room to find a pile of washing up from yesterday, or possibly even the day before.... piss: boiled!

This is a good thing and a bad thing combining to make a meh thing: I've just bought a new-to-me laptop on 'ere for cheap-like, with a Ryzen 5 5600H in it. I've only given it a quick test, but for a sample workload spanning only four cores (cryptsetup benchmark)... it's outperforming my desktop.

The desktop's 2700X pulls ahead in all-core workloads, 'cos it's 8C16T, but still. Hadn't thought things had moved on quite that far!

Yup, its surpring, My daughters handheld lightweight mobile 7840u out performs my highend full fat 5950x in single core perf (just) whilst only pulling 28w for the whole system :D

I win in multicore tests of course as I am 16/32 vs 8/16 but blimey Zen cores just go from strength to strength with each gen.

Geekbench 6 comparison, not the best benchmark, just easy, but still, obviously a full fat 7xxx would murder my 5950x.

I'd like to think so but she's a rugby player and does more training than me so I don't want to test it :D

Hows the integrated GPU on the 7840U? I've been thinking of adding a painting/animating machine to the TV downstairs (so I can truly drive my family insane) but Clip Studio needs a decent amount of GPU accelaration. Most mini PC's just curl up cry when presented with more than a couple of seconds of frames...

Best iGPU around despite the fact AMD seem unable to ship a driver for it. if you get it in a mini PC with a 78/7940 etc it'll clock up to 3GHz I know nothing about clip studio though and whether it'd accelerate that but it is pretty good at games etc. (for its power of course) if clip studio is accelerated with RDNA3 hardware you should be golden

If there's some form of benchmark etc that is representative I'd happily give it a bash.

remember that handheld chip is running off battery with a crap cooler and low power limits as its a toy, so it has handicapped performance, with all cores running its doing less than 3Ghz, let loose with desktop TDPs those single and multicore numbers for an 8/16 7xxx chip would be ~30-40% higher.

Zen 4 is such a leap over 5xxx, it is silly, you really do need an upgrade :p :D

Makes the 5xxx feel a little Meh :D

It was me. I'm the mod. You were banned for 24 hours for posting an off-topic, offensive message in someone's For Sale thread. Specifically, when they said they would get pictures added, you cracked wise about them being better if "they have boobs" in them.

There are additional rules in the Marketplace. You know this. I've told you this.

The ban also came on the back of *multiple* warnings and content deletions, including your off-putting habit of posting GIFs of Scarlett Johansson everywhere you can. It's creepy. Stop it.

I'm surprised you're not aware, being a 17-year veteran, but this is a family-friendly forum. Most swearwords are automatically filtered in ****ing fact.

Read the rules. Follow the rules. Keep your ScarJo obsession for Private Time. Shouldn't be hard, right?

Tbh I just looked up the post and if I thought you were 14 I'd have just rolled my eyes and deleted it, but the fact that we're "99.9% older blokes" here just makes it creepy and icky IMO

    Yeah, like that. Creepy.

I'm having lunch at the mo', but I'll arrange a week off for you when I'm back in the office. Maybe then you can keep it in your pants long enough to post like a grown-up.

There's only one of us getting het up here, and it ain't me. See you in a week, when hopefully you'll have mellowed out some.

Sure they're great and all, but I guess I've grown out of the phase where I sit around with my mates talking about boobs and naked women. Probably not long after I was 14.

I think, appropriately, this makes it a "meh" thing, in fact.

I was smoking cigars on a stag do last year with a guy I went to school with, the conversation went like this:

"Has your taste in women changed as you've gotten older?"

    "Yeah"

    "Has it just, broadly diversified?"

    "Yup"

That's strange because mine has narrowed down so far it's just one person, because she's the most amazing human to have ever graced the planet and for some unfathomable reason, has decided to spend her life with me.

And I gather from this that she also reads the forums?
