I don't know man. I mean it could even be a Kepler thing I don't have a clue. I don't have another GPU to test it with but I've got plenty of memory so I think I can rule that out.
Don't Xeons need ECC RAM? I know some don't work full stop unless the right RAM is used. EDIT: I can test the CPU for you in my board if you like Andy? I also have some ECC RAM I can test with.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intel-Xeo...Computing_CPUs_Processors&hash=item5661dd4324 No thanks. That was a joke yes? Any way it's still doing the same. I thought the board had bent pins but when I looked they seemed fine. I have had a good look at them and set them as straight as I could and still the same. When it starts I get 5 beeps which is normal for an Alienware with a reset cmos. It's simply telling me that the cmos has been cleared. Why it won't boot out of bios I have no idea. I have a feeling Dell have locked out the Xeons deliberately. Ah well. For right now I think I'll just wait a while. Edit. Oh yeah. Basically I tried it on another PSU so it's not a PSU issue. It still did the same thing, 3 starts then all out failure.
I don't think it's the CPU. It's brand new. If anything the board is damaged or simply won't work with it. I need some time to think about what to do with it. I won't be buying a board I know that much, and I don't trust the board to run any other CPU so I think the most likely scenario will be selling it to recoup what it owes me or swapping it for another board and CPU or CPU or something.
Since it is an Engineering Sample, I wouldn't be surprised if it was BIOS related. I've read several time that it often requires a BETA bios in order to detect them.
lmao holy crap, dudes. Basically I tried a new kettle lead in the PSU. Nothing, still dead. So I tried both of the kettle leads on another PSU and it wasn't receiving any power, indicating a blow fuse. So I got out my kettle lead with a professional power breaker on it and plugged it in. Threw the switch and the PSU literally went bang and a big blue spark came out of it pmsl. Thankfully it wasn't plugged into any hardware at the time hahahaha. The buyer has said he will refund me right now and pull them from sale. Crazy ****.
Is this the cheapy Tagan PSU that you got the other day? Sounds like you've had a lucky escape, dude. Time to head to the marketplace for a replacement? Bit gutting that the CPU / mobo combination is a no-go in any case
The seller has said he will refund me now. Apparently he has, but it won't show in my bank acc for a day or so I'm guessing. So I'm a bit screwed really. It would be bad enough if just the CPU/MB didn't work but now I've got a dead PSU too. I think I'm going to throw in the towel before this gets any more expensive.
