Okay after seeing my CPU at 103*C - 103*C - 96*C - 103*C (IntelBurnTest), I've decided to take your words for it and lowed down my voltage from 1.5V to 1.3 + shopping for a new CPU heat sink. The CPU cooler I want is Thermalright ULTRA-120 Extreme Black Edition but it doesn't come with any fans wouldn't my CPU get even hotter since this one doesn't have a fan?
Get some 120mm from Noctua for nice silence Its supposed to have fans Unless u go passive cooling ,but sinc eu OCing dont even try turning on ur PC without any fans on ur CPU heat sink
Yup. Some premium heatsinks are now sold without fan. The advantage is that you only pay for ths sink and buy a quality fan of your own choice.
How will I know witch is the proper fan to use? Or can I just buy any random fan and it will fit perfectly on the the CPU cooler?
Fans depend on what characteristics u want for ur rigg, Lets say, u want it to be cool? ok buy 50+CFM fans, but ur noise is going to be high for sure If ure looking for nice and silent , Go for a low RPM fan ,as Mankz said a Yate Loons or a nice Noctua would do u good BTW ULTRA 120 can have 2 fans one each side
As you're getting the Black edition of the TRUE, you can put two fans on it as said. Get two Antec Tricools. They have three different speed settings. You should get a superb overclock with two of these fans on medium.
I have my Q6600 at 3.6GHz with that heatsink and a couple of Sythe S-Flex 1600RPM fans. You definitely need fans to use it - it will only cool a bottom end CPU with no fans, but you don't need the most expensive fans for incredibly cooling. The cheap option, as mentioned above, would be a couple of low speed Yate Loons. If you're looking to spend a bit more, then Noctuas or Scythes are the way to go, IMO.
yes, that is what it is built for. You could try modding a bracket for a larger or smaller fan, but you probably wouldn't get the same performance.
Noctua P Sythe Yate Loon in order of quality. the Noctua P is designed for heatsinks, so it might be better. im hoping to get one me soon. (bit-tech forum cheese-cake) i currently got 2 Noiseblockers (rebranded Yate Loon). it's very quiet, but i don't know whether its lack of back pressure is holding me back.
Omg I feel so bad asking you guys so many questions, I have only two more questions. #1 The 120mm fans I have to get for the Thermalright TRue Black 120 are case fans right? #2 I've see videos on youtube where people grind their Thermalright 120's on sand paper (Lapped) what does this do?
#1 - yes #2 - it improves the contact between the base of the heasink and the CPU. mostly unnecessary. i agree with wuyanxu's ranking of fan quality, and couldn't disagree more with mm vr, tricools are crap.
I wouldn't consider anything other than Yate Loons unless you're a real enthusiast. At £4 a fan they're a great deal.
#2 - to get the benefit of having lapped the hsf, you should also lap the heatspreader on the cpu too, which invalidates any warranty you have for the cpu. However, the benefits are proven- you do end up with lower temps.
Are these two CPU Cooler the same? http://www.anitec.ca/product/11542/t...pe_cpu_cooler/ http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=30484&vpn=TRUEBLACK120&manufacture=THERMALRIGHT I ask because there's a pretty big price difference.
No, one of them is a heatsink and the other is an error page. Fix your link, and we'll be able to answer the question.
