If you want extreme cooling,IFX-14 review

This CPU Cooler also looks like the first one mentioned by the OP, it also includes a fan within the retail packaging. It also seems to have a great rating (606 Reviews, 72% 5star, 21% 4star).

the IFX-14 lacks heatpipes IMHO, what difference does it have over other regular 4-pipe heatsinks?

The only difference that pops into my mind is the heatsink that attaches from under the motherboard, look at the small one in this picture :)

I believe the IFX-14 also achieved lower temperatures then a few Water Cooling Units, the review should be this one but I may be wrong.

EDIT - I searched through the article / review and this is what I was talking about.

Note: All tests are run on an Intel quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX6850 running at Full Load for all 4 cores.

well, according to this it does seem to be 1 or 2 deg better.

so if your case supports it, get the IXF-14, but most cases will have trouble fitting the small back-heatsink. im sure Antec p182 won't.

Back when the AMD Athlon 64 3500+ was popular ThinkComputers compiled a list of CPU Coolers, it has about 30+ cpu coolers listed in it, the IFX didn't achieve great results but they where decent, Article

On the IFX-14 you have the option to install two 140mm fan's, this will improve it's cooling ability a lot and from what I understand ThinkComputers did not install any fans on the IFX-14 when they did the cooling performance tests with there AMD 64 3500+.

I remember reading a review that mentioned that they had mounted a few Scythe fans onto the IFX-14, I believe that these where the fans, I may be wrong but I imagine that any fan would be better then none.

Also the Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX has a few good reviews about it, I would check this one out to if you are interested as I imagine it would be easier to install then an IFX-14.

i think the prices for computing components has been hit the most, gtx285: £360 USD and £320 GBP.

Antec p182: on OFFER at OCuk for £110. i bought it for only £80

FrostyTech for all your heatsink reviews. Seriously. In-depth, and massive review coverage.

Also, something ridiculously large like that IFX-14 one can weigh up to 1kg, which I wouldn't trust my motherboard to hold. I specifically bought a low-weight HSF, at <500g, however of course there is a performance difference.

Pimonserry some people that are afraid of the weight of the IFX-14 have actually "tied" the Heatsink to the case so it is being support, it really is a beast of a high-end Heatsink.

    WOW! Just wow! I got my Thermalright TRUE Black 120 today and installed it! My previous Zalman ($80) IDLEd at 45*C - 40*C- 38*C- 38*C and full load 85*C - 82*C - 80*C 80*C with Q6600 @ 3.4GHz. Now that I installed my new TRue Black 120 my temps are 30*C - 29*C - 28*C - 28*C on IDLE with Q6600 @ 3.4GHz and full load 63*C - 63*C - 64*C - 64*C! Are these good temps now?

Oh wow. ^^That sounds really nice. Heck, try pushing it to 3.6GHz if you can manage to keep it under 70C that way...

    Will I notice a difference with 3.4GHz vs 3.6GHz?

    3.6GHz is a 5.88% increase over 3.4GHz. So maybe.

    But hey, why not? :p

GOD DAMN! I love this CPU Cooler! All my core temps are exactly the same, I've been running Prime95 for well over 1hour now and the max I'm getting is 65*C for all cores. I'm going to give 3.6GHz a try now. Is there any other way to make my temps lower?

Undervolting (not the best idea for obvious reasons) or watercooling (also not the best idea for equally obvious reasons).

Or use third-party thermal grease, if you aren't already.

    Or lap the CPU.

There is one thing that's on my mind, how come on my previous CPU cooler, core 1&2 would have the same temp while core 3&4 will have the same but always 10*C lower than what core 1&2 will always have. And when I look at the TRue Black its all exactly the same for Cores 1-2-3 & 4?

Hi Wuyanxu I see you have the same cooler as me, after you completely mount your Cooler onto you motherboard can you still move the cooler around if you turn it or give it a little turn?

yes, a little. there's nothing to worry about.

when you say full load, what program did you use to test?
