I'm pretty happy with it, though as you can see by my previous score (which was with a slightly lower-clocked card and CPU) it's due in no small part to ATI's new uberhax drivers, the 8.07s. I'm not quite sure how they managed to get me 1500 points, but I'm not complaining ;)

    From ATI:

"The 8.07 beta driver includes a memory allocation bug fix for all AGP RADEON products with 256 of MB of memory that significantly improves performance for applications that make intensive use of graphics memory."

It seems to be legit, also there's speculation that these drivers contain an always-on version of Catalyst AI. Although ATI have said that Catalyst AI doesn't work without the CCC, that could well just mean that you can't turn it on and off, and that it's stuck on in this release. There appear to be a few bugs with this hotfix, but when it gets released officially as 4.10 hopefully these will be rectified ;)

It'll probably be included in the next issues of PC Gamer or the like.

8.07 beta increased my score to whopping 2665 from 2602.

Edit - The real bonus is the fact it got rid of CCC. :D

Ah, that reminds me of another thing - I installed 8.07s straight over CCC, and I can advise you strongly not to do it - as soon as CCC would initialise on boot I'd get a BSOD, had to reboot in safe mode and wipe everything ATI-related.

Anyway, the reason it didn't benefit you is that you don't have a 256MB card.

There are only about 3 nvidia cards in the top 40, driver optimisation will be playing a big part.

5498 with 6800ultra. DD nv68 coming soon so not pushing too hard :)

The 8.07's tweak the memory allocation, I should have some numbers on my whole test suite sooner or later. I'm more than interested to find out whether this performance increase only happens in 3DMark, as I still firmly believe in the statements that I made about the benchmark...

After all, 3DMark is a synthetic benchmark that ATI and NVIDIA appear to concentrate on more so than the majority of game titles, because being number one is so crucial for their sales. Really speaking, they should be focusing their funds and manpower on fixing driver bugs and increasing performance in the top game titles. From our perspective, there are some useful feature tests included, but apart from that we are not overly impressed by the latest 3DMark release - this is probably due to the fact that we were spoilt with eye candy in the recent release of Doom 3.

I installed straight over too. Not had any problems, it seems to have taken off CCC completely.

I got rid off it in "startup" though ages ago, so maybe it didnt uninstall it off yours if it was in use.

did you try the 8.07 hot fix? I'm interested as to whether it offers a performance increase on a 256MB 9600 XT (despite the 256MB frame buffer being fairly useless in most, if not all titles)
