There's a hell of a lot of texture shimmering in the first game test on ATI hardware. :blah:

:D It seems the 9600XT can beat the GF-FX cards (inc FX5950ultra) even when they use the latest unofficial nVidia drivers, so it's still not all bad news.

;) Nice to see the improvements, very strange about nVidia's dual display quirks, we saw the same thing in Doom III IIRC.

 I'd heard that was caused by the light hitting at a certain angle? Perhaps the way in which the drivers/hw handle that particular situation, I can't rem where I'd read about it now.

 I'm pleased with my score of 2450 with a very cost effective system ... XP2500+ @XP3200+ 512MB_PC3200 and Radeon 9700PRO @380/320 Omega_CAT4.9 with NO tweaks and background tasks still running! I was very concerned about the 9500/9700 instruction length limit which is only 64 (9800=160 X800=1536) considering GT3 (Canyon) reportedly likes almost 96 instruction slots. My perf is the same as a 9800Pro so I'm very happy, I'll upgrade to X800/6800 when they're old news and available for £100 or less.

1 GB Corsair extreme low latency

Hmm, you should be getting a lot more.
You definately sure the clocks are right on the card? Whats your CPU score?
Is your system running well? Or is it full of **** in desperate need of a de-frag etc etc?

Couldnt notice a massive amount tbh, at under 10 fps you cant really tell hehe

Reading a thread on XS, it was mentioned that the amount and timings of ram made very little difference to this test, can anyone confirm this at all?

It's to do with the algorithm that is used to calculate the shadows AFAIK. ATI hardware takes 4 samples and creates an average colour output over a number of passes, whereas the NVIDIA DST method takes 4 samples and adds a bilinear filter to create a single colour output.

Image quality differences are subjective, but in game test 1 on the default test, it's a tough call between the NVIDIA GeForce 6 and ATI R(V)4xx IQ...

ATI's implementation has a lot of texture shimmering around the platform in between the railings, while NVIDIA's implementation appears to lack a lot of filtering, when you consider that the default test uses (up to) 4xAF. Without studying at the images, the scene renders "nicer" on the NVIDIA GeForce 6, simply because there's no texture shimmering that can get very annoying.

not sure of the cpu score, but on the first cpu test it was a constant 1fps and then in the 2nd cpu test i got a constant-ish 4fps.

In 3d mark 2003 I was scoring in the 12,000s

Thats running with the new patch to 1.1 and the ATi 8.07 Hotfix and my X800 pro overclocked past ST speeds :) For some reason, though, it keeps failing when i try to upload results.

currently the fastest 6800GT on the ORB

we will see how long that lasts though

mind you it was only at 4GHz and 440/1150 (everyday settings)

just zipped off a superpi at 4.3GHz and have clocked the card up to 475/1200 , but for some reason GT2 throws a fit with core speeds over 450MHz :/

Have you downloaded the hotfix for 05 yet? It's supposed to fix the problems some people are having with GT2. Also, there's a WHQL 66.72 driver out that's meant to improve scores even more ;)
