*Mutter mutter* I will be doing when I go to Manchester in march, I need a good fountain pen to try out.
Going to have a bit of a look around. I'm sure there's a difference between what you consider decent and I consider decent at this point anyway. There's definitely a good shop in the Trafford Centre, and I know there's a couple among all the watch shops in the city centre, so that's where I'll be heading.
Yus! Could you recommend anything for a first pen? My budget will be about 25 quid and seeing all those awesome inks truly won me over. Will I need a larger budget even for a first pen to include things like ink and paper?
A lot of people like this pen: http://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk/showproduct.php?brand=Lamy&range=Safari&cat=pens I have never tried one though. A nice ream of paper costs around £5 and ink is around £10-15. You will also need a converter for that pen, piston filling pens are quite a bit more expensive.
You will see a big difference when you spend around £100, above that the cost is mainly materials and exclusivity.
Not quite in the class of some here, but here are my decent-ish pens: Pelikan M600 Faber-Castell E-motion with Pearwood barrel
Very nice! What is the Pelikan like to write with? Here is my collection so far, sorry about the poor image quality!
