update 6 - the 3½ drives slot (list of all updates) like the update title said, today's i'm dealing with the 3½ drives slot. I plan to use 2 slots in there: one for the fan controller and the other for the usb/audio interface. enough talknig, let's get some modding action in there first: cutting the wood top panel guidelines for the steel backplate and dremel power putting the panel back in place before drilling the mounting screw holes screws in place with the bolt fitted in the wood itself some super-glue to hold the bolt in place (will be helpful when mounting things from the inside of the case) dremeling the side-supports from a chunk of 1mm steel the bending the result fast test with a spare floppy-drive view from behind acrylic cover cutting and finalyy in place (note that the butterbly bolts are momentary, will be replaced with something better) the case up-to-date that's it, i think i'm not going to update soon the case (at least not this week) i got some exams coming and i really have to focus on those
update 7 - the case feet and cover-support (list of all updates) the exam went pretty well, so i have some time today for another woodworking update! cut out some more silver fir pieces L-joints to fix them to the bottom of the case in place already! preparing for the rear joint there it is (these will fix the feet to the back of the case) view of the bottom of the case, with a little front panel added all mounted cut some wood bar in 45° angles pretty good joint result added a couple of hinges for the top.grill and filter up to date!
update 8 - the intake grill and dust filter (list of all updates) I started with a sheet of 1.5mm german silver kindly offered by Picchiani e Barlacchi (many thanks ), in which i dremeled the hole for the grill and the dust filter sorry for the bad pictures quality, dad took the camera today and i had to manage with my phone's camera that is not really good then i cut the alu grill first impression then i cut and bent some other metal parts a nice and thick piece of white foam (approx 6-8 mm) white adhesive sheet to cover the metal support the result the result after fixing everything with rivets the back of the filter in place, flipped view of the bottom of the case and the view from inside the case trough the fan holes (only the foam is visible)
L1U case is getting some style with those ribs added. Good job on the base and filter. Keep having fun
thank you! the ribs are the support for the final cover (that will be metal covered with white adhesive tape)
thanks riekmaharg2! I'll use the same system for the exhaust grill piacere di conoscerti Herodj95, io sono di Firenze!
update 9 - case fans and front panel (list of all updates) today I'll be installing the 5 case fans, 3 intake and 2 exhaust, the front usb and audio panel and the fan controller. let's start with the fans, I purchased some Bitfenix SPECTRE fans from caseking with my own founds I started pulling away the ugly rear sticker and replacing it with white adhesive tape then I went to the top wood frame and painted it white Then I disassembled the base of the case and the steel sheet mounted fans and grills I used 2 Y splitters to power all the base fans with a single 3-pin cable, I should not have any power issues as long as the total amperage of the fans is less then 3 A fans in place, view from the bottom of the case sliding the fan grill in place view from the inside of the case then I went to the top exhaust panel, mounted it very straightforward with no difference from the bottom panel again, I used a Y splitter to power the fans together in place, view from the back (top of the case) the adapter coming out from the panel I purchased also a fan controller and an audio/usb panel with my own founds the top panel in place with the 2 front panels mounted too the panel open the top the bottom more details full view of the case with the side panels off (I'll have to work on them soon enough) that's it! I hope you enjoyed the update!
thanks again herodj95! Thank you AnG3L I will! haha, I used a gentleman's saw because I don't have a circular saw, the cut isn't actually very very precise Unfortunately, I can only work with the tools I have, hoping I'll be able to do better with my next mods
update 10 - top grill and fans test (list of all updates) out of a bigger slate I did cut the structure of the grill cut the grill drilled holes for rivets parts ready to be assembled putting the white adhesive on the structure and fixing everything with rivets detail of the joint (the rivets excess has been cut before mounting everything on the case) and finally in place for the testing i made a little video with some annotations sorry fot the terribad video quality... but you get the idea
Im liking this more and more the top and bottom panels are nice cant wait to see the next few updates
you are served my friend, I had some time this afternoon so I kept going with dremel and drill this is what came out update 11 - the front panel and power button (list of all updates) the front panel will be german silver (got it from my sponsor Picchiani e Barlacchi) covered with white adhesive tape as the rest of the external structure started bending and dremeling to an appropriate size the metal hold it in place for the guide holes drilled a hole for the power button (I didn't have a 16mm drill so I used a smaller one and used a round file to enlarge it to the appropriate size) detail of the hole (don't bother the scratches they'll be covered) the power button coming out from behind and there it is, held in place by 10 little screws, perfectly matching the rest of the case! that's it for today (I swear ) hope you enjoyed the update!
