BF3 ultra settings at very high resolution. To put things in perspective, even at 1080, full ultra settings, a single 680 will struggle on Damavand Peak 64 players. The FPS can drop during busy moments. Fortunately over-clocking helps greatly.
O.O <- Me when I saw the "It's coming" photo O.O <- Me when I heard a 690 was due out O.O <- Me when I saw the actual GPU O.O <- Me when I saw the price tag
Nah, been there, did that with dual GPU GFX cards. Just not for me! I'm known to be crazy, but not that crazy! As you have stated, I tend to stay clear of them now!
Yea, but this $1000 card will still only come with the basic 2GB VRAM per GPU. 2GB was a controversial choice for the 680, you would have thought with this card they would have pushed it to 4GB each. In VRAM limited situations this 690 will perform worse than a 4GB 680 costing around half the price. If NV wanted to make the best graphics card possible they would have slapped more RAM on there. The sort of resolutions you could power with a 690 you are very likely to be vRAM limited at some point.
Wasn't it been found on this forum, that the Geforce GTX 680 doesn't need more than 2GB of memory, unlike the older cards? I don't really recall. But i think something like that was found. I can't find the post to make sure.
I think it was TG who said a 680 uses less memory than a 580, and that it uses about 1.9 GB in a game that needed 2.2 GB with the 580. (numbers are probably a little out, but I think I remember them pretty well)
2 sli 680 cost the same money require more pcie slots and more power so its not a stupid price if your intrested in 680sli and dont have duel pcie 16 slots or 8 slots available and not everyone does
Makes me think about holding back on a 680 GTX for the time being as this should help push the prices down nearer £400.. EDIT - OcUK have 690's listed at £699 - but have the naming wrong.. even though thats definitely the price and photo of a 690 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-157-OK&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1966
Uuuh... Are you sure? Not quite the same angle, but I'm sure that's a 590, just OCuk being a bit thick again.
I agree with .//TuNdRa. The 690 actually say GTX 690 on them, and if you compare with the pics in the OP, the shroud is different. Not sure why ocuk are listing a card that has been EOL for some time though. Didn't NVidia withdraw them (or just let stocks die) because they weren't efficient enough? Edit: just looked again at the ad. Looks like they may be recycling an old product description and just haven't bothered to update the info on it
That sounds about right for OcUk, and Meh I've never got on very well with Dual GPU cards, and I've had a few 9800 GX2, 5970, 4870 X2, GTX 295 etc and I pretty much sold them all because I was sick of the drivers issues I was getting in some games. At least with 2 single cards you can disable SLI if the game your playing doesn't like it.
