got back from work, the sun was shining, so grabbed the camera and went for a short walk around a local park. Playground by wuyanxu, on Flickr Roses by wuyanxu, on Flickr Pink roses by wuyanxu, on Flickr Flowerbed by wuyanxu, on Flickr Flower by wuyanxu, on Flickr

Amazing It looks like the camera was away from the car, how did you take capture it? IMGP3401 by silverfish51, on Flickr Anyway, summer's turning out to be... y'know... I may actually buy an umbrella so I can shoot in the rain.
Hi All, My sister just got into photography and here is one of her photos today, using her 450D with 18-55mm kit lens Any thoughts?
Just going through a few of my holiday photos... This one sticks out as being quite nice for a random snap while walking around. Few more in the set too. Be interested to know some thoughts.
thanks, thought i'd change it a little, most people do blur background and go for separation. i went for in focus background but using wide angle to enlarge the flower. this photo is fantastic, i always wanted to do this. how did you mount the camera outside of the car? or was the car going really fast for 1/30s to generate the blur? with water in the shot, i'd thought it's better to be level. but i love the composition with the chains and the detail on the ground. great shot, could do with straightening and distortion correction, but other than that, captured the feel of the little drive way.
It's a nice effort and the composition is strong IMO, however it's underexposed and the colour balance is a bit off. Great start though!
So, what follows is just my opinion and can be ignored/disregarded. Y'know the drill. Also, I had a little play with the JPEGs in Adobe Camera Raw as it's possibly closest to Lightroom. Quick and dirty, no blends or burning. Nealieboyee: Framing is okay but I agree with LennyRhys about exposure and colour balance. Basic (Tab) Exposure +0.40 Fill Light +26 Clarity + 30 HSL/Greyscale (Tab) --Luminance (Sub Tab) Reds + 36 Oranges +11 Yellows + 20 Greens + 16 Aquas + 24 --Saturation (Sub Tab) Oranges + 51 Yellows + 3 Greens + 56 Aquas + 23 Into Photoshop; Resize, Smart Sharpen 0.2 radius/160%/Gaussian Blur Krikkit; Pretty much the same, it's a nice shot but a little dark and undersaturated, although looking at the other pictures, it looks like an overcast day anyway which seriously wouldn't have helped matters. However, underexposed means you have a lot of options afterward when processing the image. Overexposed with blown out highlights is just butt. Personally though, I would have selected either a higher ISO or manually set the camera and metred off the front of the car, or even kitty on top to make sure the hood didn't get blown out. So; Basic (Tab) Fill Light + 12 Brightness + 30 Clarity + 30 HSL/Greyscale (Tab) --Luminance (Sub Tab) Reds +11 Oranges +16 Yellows + 18 Greens + 26 Aquas + 4 Blues - 20 --Saturation (Sub Tab) Reds + 38 Yellows + 45 Greens + 28 Aquas + 22 Blues + 33 Into Photoshop; Resize, Vibrance + 15, Smart Sharpen 0.2 radius/160%/Gaussian Blur. You could do more, but I left it here.
That's immense, thanks Silver. It was a bit of a struggle to keep a keen eye on the exposure etc while wandering with the family, so I'd aired on the side of underexposing after ruining some other shots earlier in the holiday with overexposure! I've not even started down the road of post-processing yet really, I can never decide quite what to do with them!
Well, apart from a copy of Lightroom (or Photoshop, if you've just robbed a bank) I'd suggest buying a couple of books. Understanding Exposure 3rd Edition Bryan Peterson Link Uses a very informal writing style, which makes it surprisingly easy to understand. Fundamentals of shooting and getting stuff right in camera. The Photographer's Eye Michael Freeman Link Composition and how people look at images.
Thanks Silver, Lenny and Wyx for the feedback. Very much appreciated. Stayed up to see the sun rise this morning. A little underexposed I think.
i don't think it's underexposed. it captures that beautiful moment you saw with your eyes, and i personally think that's the purpose of photography. get it on flickr
I like it, just pop it into whatever editor you use, up the exposure a little/have a general play, see if you like it better, if not, leave it as is (that's how I edit my photos atleast ) Hopefully will be posting a fair few photos again once I'm back home
Need for Speed by Neo - nimajus, on Flickr Canon 400D 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 at 10mm 1/30 sec handheld at f3.5 & ISO 400 Glad everyone likes this. No crop or anything. This is almost straight out of a camera. Just a bit of curves adjustment. Blur is from a slow shutter speed 1/30 sec. Took three or four photos until got something that was not all blurry. No attachement or anything, just held out my left hand out with my old Rebel Xti (400D) To be able to take it with one hand had to set the camera on 2sec timer. When you hold out your arm it does go quite far from the car. @Krikkit I love the scene because it's almost surreal. So I would edit it like it's a dream One group of people I want to punch in the face are those saying photos should be what comes out of a camera. I think pretty much every photo should be edited in some way, just like a good film print needs to go through a persons hands and chemicals to get a good result. Letting a retarded computer chip select colors/sharpness/contrast just does not make sense to me. It has no feelings, emotions or understanding of what's the purpose of the photo. So I'd just say edit your photos bit-tech friends. Sometimes it's just a tiny adjustment of contrast and it's enough. New image for today: Dodge Challenger by Neo - nimajus, on Flickr
