Graphics 460 SLI

Never had a problem with SLI been using it for years it works great

 

...and for £107.35 its a relatively cheap boost

 

£107 is amazing for a new 1GB 460 - I paid nearly that for my second card, but it was used

The only problem I have with the EVGA is the crappy alumium cooler with no heatpipes. Quite a few of the 460s use these and whilst they are perfectly fine for single card use, they suck for SLI...

 

just had to order an SLI bridge off ebay though for £5, I can live with that. I inherited the motherboard and it didnt come with one.

 

I was sorely tempted to buy a cheap second 460 but as my first GV-N460OC-1GI is so good, i paid the extra £30 for another.

 

I dont know how easy this is to judge but what do people think 2 x 460's are the equivalent of? maybe a 580?

Where SLI 460s fall down over a 580 is at high res with lots of AA as the extra VRAM of the 580 gives it a good advantage.

thanks for that, thats a useful site, makes it quick and easy to make a comparison. I think its worth paying an extra £107 for the performance (ish) of a £350-£400 card

Yep, the numbers don't lie. SLI 460s are awesome for the price, albeit with a caveat or 2.

 

It's worth overclocking the GTX 460 as well to catapult performance even further ahead of a GTX 580 in SLI enabled games. For example Battlefield 3 really benefits from SLI, not only is frame rate doubled compared to a single card but when overclocked; in my case to 890MHz on the core (with 1.112V) the game screams by on high settings at 1080P. Required a modification to the GPU BIOS to go over the 1.087V limit of the cards firmware but I'm reaping the rewards in game now!

 

IIRC Blogins you have a 2560 panel? How does BF3 run at native with your rig?

I do not like the idea of lowering the resolution, I'd rather dial down other settings

 

I'm running SLI 460's and right now I can't see any reason to upgrade, there's nothing around they won't handle, like the others have said and overclocked they fly along.

 

Personal preference. At native resolution I can get dips in frame rate down to 40FPS with high settings. At 1080P with high settings and vertical sync I get a solid 60FPS which makes me a better killer!

 

i have my single overclocked to 900mhz, so two of these will be awesome!

 

I mainly fly jets in BF3 so solid 60fps not required for putting holes in choppers.

I have a 550W PSU, do you think this will be enough? im getting all sorts of results from the online calculators.
