Kinda stupid thread, but I told my cousin how many I own and she asked me if I thought owning that many is a little excessive. So, I started to wonder where I sit in the world of DVD ownership.

Currently I own 310 DVDs (I just wrote them all down so that I can make a nice list of them all on the 'puter). Would you say that is a little excessive, bordering on excessive, or nowhere near enough?

Some Highlights of My collection (and recently purchased):

Neon Genesis: Evangelion - all 10 DVDs
(collection 0:1 - 0:8, Death and Rebirth, and End of Evangelion)
Brazil - 3 disk Criterion Collection
Boondock Saints - bought it the day it came out on DVD
Susperia Limited Ed. #18389/60000 3Disks - Dario Argento movie
(if you are a horror afficionado, his movies are a must see!)
All David Cronenberg movies - Except Naked Lunch, it hasn't been released on DVD yet.
(he has made some of the coolest movies: Scanners, Videodrome, Existenz)
Nightmare on Elm Street Box Set - Some 3D stuff in the extras disk!
Osamu Tetzuka's Metropolis - As far as I know, includes the first mini-dvd (extras disk) released in the US.
Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell movies - Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Bruce Campbell vs. The Army of Darkness: The Directors Cut (includes the original apocalypse ending!)

Tons and Tons more. Right now I am expanding my Anime collection, it's hard to really get that going because of the price of Anime DVDs in the US. You don't really see any that are under twenty dollars.

This post is long enough now, I just love movies and could go on and on about them. Post up some numbers. I'll take a picture of my collection tomorrow and I should have my whole list typed up tomorrow night.

    Lates,
    Ryan B.

I only have around 20 or 30. Mainly consists of Comedy, Music (Punk), Anime, Action and foriegn films.

My mate on the other hand, well, he owns around 600 I think. All alphabetised in a funky storage system. He sells a lot of them on and buys new stuff in all the time so it fluctuates. If it's a good movie, he's probably got it :)

PublicNME:in the first three months of my collection, I had 62 movies. Then I wasn't working for about 9 months (I'm pretty good with money, had a bit saved up and was still living with the family), so I didn't buy any at all. Meaning, out of the last two years, I have only been buying DVDs for 15 months. One of my reasons for keeping a job these days is so that I can buy more movies (i'm sad, I know. Another reason is so that I can buy computer parts). I figure that by the end of the year, i'll have another 100 or more added to the collection.

VadimtheConqueror: You have a nice collection starting there. Got a good mix going on there, old and new, sci-fi and anime, drama and action. Most of my collection started out pretty lopsided, mainly anime and comedy with a few classics added in.

sinizterguy: yeah man, post them up! I should have my collection typed up by tonight for all to view. I just remembered that some of my DVDs are on loan, so I have to start calling people to see who has what. The list grows...

I have a ton of VHS movies that entered my collection when I moved in with my fiance. She split the collection with her mother when we moved into our house, they had over 400 movies on VHS. Pictures tonight along with the list.

    Lates,
    Ryan B.

The bookshelves are all part of my bed - you have to be an olympic grade high jumper to get on it :naughty:

Still, I'd like to see Ikea try and put it in one of those flat packs :hehe:

Stew: A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket are a must have in any collection! Stanley Kubrik is a genius in his own right. Killer flicks, just killer.

Kevo: Just beat me out, looks like I am going to have to go out and buy a few more soon. Hehehe :D

Final Fantasy is kinda drama. It fits some of the 'rules' that would consider it a drama. I was kinda on a roll there, even though it is animated (maybe considered anime by some), I would consider it a sci-fi drama.

I believe those numbers are an age rating system. Kinda like Lego sets.

ah, ok, i can see where you're coming from with that.

what a way to deface a perfectly good dvd box. why not just put it in the fine print like we do out here.

Got 35 myself, and another 6 should arrive from Play.com in the next few days. Take a look at my collection here if you like. Speaking of which, if there are any of you dvd fans who dont have DVD Profiler, you really should download a copy - it is free after all.
