Hey MR. BEAN!!! did you finish this project?? what happened?! lol. whats the update on this project log?
+1 for an update, please dude! This is an epic mod, your cutting and filing is so clean it looks like you CNC'd it with a laser cutter! Keep up the awesome work man, I'm loving the SAS drives too!
Hello Everyone, This mod will go ahead, but is temporarily on hold, as I have transferred the hardware to a HP Blackbird 002 case I managed to get my hands on. So, for now, on hold Please see here
@ Modsquad: Thanx I luv your Copper-Li mod too, great things happening there! You're welcome to check out the Blackbird thread too.... @ boy 4rm oz: Nope, got it from Alex Wiley at Computer Choppers in the USA - HP sent him 2 cases to do a Dream Machine mod (see links in first post), and he only used one. I made him a decent offer, which he accepted ($500 USD) - shipping killed me though, it was to big to go USPS, so it had to go FedEx - cost was approx $700 USD shipping. So all up, $1,200 USD. Ouch. But, I think worth it to have a one-off, very unique PC....
$1,200USD OMG. That must be close to $1,500AUD LOL that's a lot of cash my friend. Well I guess that's what this "hobby" is all about haha. I wanna see some pics of that beauty.
It's a brave man that takes a dremel to a £600 quid case! Or a confident one i guess. Can't wait. Cyp.
Mr Bean, question about the powerswitch/front port panel How do you plan on making this work with ATX motherboard inputs? If you have a wiring diagram, please share, since I am planning to start modding the ebay-ed G5 case sitting in my basement. I know cyprio ended up completely changing his out, so I was wondering what your approach would be.
Hey PM me an email address where I can send you the G5 wiring diagrams. I happen to have some from when I was working on my G5 conversion.
Thanx Blackflag @ Eaglestrike - I measured mine all out, but there's a small secret with the Firewire that's got to be connected for it all to work - if you have questions, I can point you to insanelymac.com too. Br, MrBean
secret with the firewire? That sounds ominous, especially since the mobo I picked out doesn't have a firewire. I've been to insanelymac, and gotten those, but I don't like this secret you're talking about ty again, eagle ps. mobo is asus P5Q SE Plus off of newegg, a nice little rebate, and I'm good to go (i hope)
Nice work so far. I am really looking forward to you next thread update. I have just started modding a Powermac G5 case my self, so the more inspiration I can get the better
HenrikW, in that case, you definitely need to check out Cyprio's G5 mod "Apple Core Duo" ...It's finished, and so good it made the front page. Mr. Bean needs to drink a six pack of Red Bull and finish this
Jeesh, been long enough - but this ain't dead, and here's an update Shame on all of you that thought I have abandoned this one! So, small progress report - finally, some would say..... I have decided on new hardware for this Mod, as indicated a couple weeks ago. This box will go to my Wife, whose gaming rig needs replacement, so, time for new hardware. My primary box nowadays is my HP Blackbird custom setup, sporting probably the only one in the world, certainly the 1st, with custom HP SAS HD cage, running 8 146gb 2.5" SAS drives, in 2x Raid 1+0 configs, one for Server 2003, the other Server 2008. All good. Well, coming back to the G5 box -> I have ordered and received the following: Motherboard - eVGA X58 Classified 4-way SLI EK waterblock for chipset/mosfets Graphics card - Sapphire Radeon 5970 dualcore ATi yummy-ness Memory - Corsair 2000Mhz CAS7 6gig kit with cooling fan CPU - i7 930 quadcore, confirmed to clock very easily to 4.2+gig SuperMicro 16-channel 1068E-based SAS Raid Controller 4x 73Gb HP 2.5" SAS Harddrives 2x 500Gb Seagate 7200rpm storage drives Dual DDC rev 325 pumps, with Heatkiller dual pump-top To order - once I'm back from Finland on the 21st of June 2010: 1500W Silverstone PSU HP SAS 8x 2.5" Drive Cage. 240mm Feser dual-radiator 1x Swiftech Apogee XT Waterblock 1x EK fullcover 5970 graphics block. Going really well, and this build will start in all earnest once I'm back from Finland - now I can finally continue, after everyone have finished their G5 mods, rofl.
