Supposedly there is a 6GB 3060 coming "later"... but yeah, the 12GB 3060 will put their own 3060TI in a rather tough spot.
General chatter was that it was 6 or 12 and with a lower bus they went 12 because of AMD. Still seems an odd lineup when you look at it in isolation.
16GB 3070 and 20GB 3080 coming in 3...2...1...... Releasing 6GB 3060 would be like the 3GB 1060, it won't age well at all.
This whole situation is getting right on my tit-end. GPUs that are hard to get a hold of and make sod all sense. If nvidia had shins i'd kick them in them.
Just looked at Nvidia site and 3090 available at £1399, 3080 OOS still though. They always seem to have the wrong card available when I look LOL
Yeah, that's dirty pool. I'm suffering the same thing recently; placed an order months ago for a whole new system (in parts) at work, when I ordered, the supplier had everything in stock, but magically upon ordering they GPUs weren't available. edit: For me (for work) the extra VRAM pays for itself. But for gaming, right now? Despite the fact I could buy a 3090, I can't justify the 2.2x price hike over a 3080.
*If you can find a 3080, let alone under a grand. I'd say right now the price hike is closer to about 1.5x~1.6x. Still not good, but honestly right now the 3090 is better value than the rest simply because it's closest to MSRP and is the 3000 series card most readily available.
In Japan, the 3080 is in and out of stock basically randomly. It usually hovers in the 95-110,000 JPY range, which is not too bad a markup. The 3090 is always in stock, but it usually 200-250,000JPY. Doesn't change anything, though; for work, I can justify 3090's (my boss just ordered four)... but I can't justify one for my home system.
Does anyone have any idea how one actually buys a 3070? I have stockinformer alerts on, I look at the major hardware websites each day, but it seems like they're just permanently out of stock aside from the scalpers on Ebay who somehow manage to buy them. Currently in a bind with an ancient R9 280 and a 1440 monitor arriving shortly.
Follow PartAlert & CtrlAltStock on the Twitters. Also - Scan's 30x0 update page says they're expecting 400 assorted 3070's this week, but have only 70 pre-orders outstanding.
Cheers lads. Crazy how fast stock disappears, PartAlert had an 8m old alert for 3070's on Amazon, totally sold out when I opened it.
Yeah, looking at Stock Informer, from stock coming online to going out of stock is usully 5 minutes, so if you see a 2 minute old alert you're already too late!
I actually managed to get one thanks to IanW's suggestion of checking PartPicker, literally just sat for 90 minutes or so this morning, missed the first few alerts but finally got one about 4 seconds after it was posted. It was gone within a minute. Absurd, I've been buying PC hardware for a long time and I've never seen the GPU market (or any component market) this bad before, I'm lucky that I had the money saved to counter-balance my stupidity of buying a 1440p monitor with only an R9 280 under the bonnet, but it's really truly a dire market.
I did the same using a Discord called Part Alert. I had a 1070 and new 1440p monitor. So getting a 3060ti was a worthwhile upgrade.
I purchased a PC from Scan earlier today and they said that they DO have 3080's in stock for prebuilds - mentioned that they didn't have any EVGA branded ones but did have ASUS branded...
