I am not showing the schematic for the security circuit. The front connectors are for Keyboard, Mouse, Headset (USB), and the fourth will adapt back to normal USB to allow for other device connections. I may use the fourth for a mouse glow pad also, depending on time. The alarm will cover any changes in the system, the USB, case, or power supply. I have not decided on a alarm horn as of yet, I probably won't post any details on that stuff anyways. I already answered that, the keyswitch came from www.digi-key.com The Vandal resistant switch came from: www.voyeurmods.com
Are you going to fabricate a saw or use an existing saw from a hardware store for your design? *whips out notebook, starts scribbling furiously: Note to self, this is how you mod*
I am having one cut out of alluminum. I am not using a normal saw for a few reasons: Most saws have the teeth tips bent out slighty, so they arn't flat. Many have carbide tip also. It would be hard to find a perfectly sized blade for the project. I would still have to cut in extra holes into the blade anyways. And custom making the design, allows me to etch in an exact drop area in my plexi to set the blade into.
Wow this project is really moving along!!! I hope this is at QuakeCon this year, I am really looking foward to getting to see this at there. . . Hey ZapWizard do you happen to know if this will be at QuakeCon this year ?
i just wanna get one thing straight say you have 2 harddrive in this case a 76gb and a 36gb(close enough) they maybe spinning at the same speed but the higher capacity hardrive will be a whole lot faster ok think of it this way the lower capacity hard drive has a lower density on the platters so natuly its going to pick up less data for every turn of the platter thus making it slower than the bigger one the bigger one the data is more dence or more tightly squeezed together so in one turn its going to pick up more data good work zap
I don't think so, as nVidia goes to QuakeCon. If ATI isn't using the PC, I can have them ship it to me for an event, so I may still be able to bring it. Thanks, but there are other threads about raptor harddrives. ------------------------------------------------------------ I finished installing windows, drivers, and a few games. The system runs very fast. I haven't benchmarked it yet, I still need to tweak the bios as the memory is VERY fast. (PC3500, CAS2 memory)
Zap this is awesome...... Any chance of you bringing your projects to England some time? I would love to see them in the flesh!
I don't have any plans personaly. But this project may make it there sometime with ATI. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a teaser of what I am working on next. It is a 1:1 scale prototype laser cut out of 1/8" Lucite.
your really into your scale models lately...but seriously, that thing is awsome!!!! the sawblade will be totally badass......
great work Zap ! - the ATI and AMD logo will be made from plastic and added in the blade ? - in the firsts 3d pics, we can see a light red glow on the border of the blade, will u really do this glowing effect ?
Yes, the ATI and AMD logos on the front are already cut. I will probably have the blade laser cut to keep things very detailed, and the lettering will sit into the cutouts in the blade. Yes, the blade will be lit from behind. I am currently working on perfecting the lighting layout, and circuitry. I have a prototype that has 36 cutouts for LED's, one every 10 degree's in a circle.
Hey Zap this is going to be an awesome rig. My question for ya would be are you using the versa laser you won for the TechTV mod to do the laser cuts? If so how hard is it to set up the programs and layouts for the different cuts that you are making for this case. Once again I love this mod.
Use my e-mail for these types of questions. But the images are vector images, I normaly do a direct image from trueSpace to Coreltrace (Converts a raster image to vector image) Then in Coreldraw everything is scaled and set for a cut or etch.
I am working quickly on this project, but I don't have many images. But here is a teaser from my test-setup for the front panel lighting.
Wow, that looks sweet! are you at all worried about the amount of light that will be produced by the dozens of LEDs you seem to be planning for that one section? Other than that, and the fact that you are going to have quite a wiring job for the LED circuit, that is a totally awesome mod, Zapwizard Can you give us a shot of the overall progress up to this point?
It is a very large amount of light, but it will be kept in check so it doesn't spread all over the area around the PC. There will be 24 LEDs on the front. (I am not using the yellow LEDs) I don't have a shot of the overall progress, as most of the parts are laying around, and each needs a little work before putting onto the PC.
err, so you have all the parts...correct, there is just the whole modding part left.......got it...and since i am lazy, can someone tell me when this thing must be completed by...? what is your "due date" zap?
