you say that but the 8800gtx was a massive improvement went that came out maybe it is ging to happen again who knows? (nvidea if they would just tell us only time will tell us anyway)
This probably isn't news to you guy's but I thaught it worth bringin' to this thread, if for nothing else Ujesh Desai's response as to why frmi is late!?! , an honest rep? whatever next! XD..... http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3651&cp=4#comments If this is to be beleived, fermi's looking better than I'd hoped...so glad I did't give in to the old upgrade deamon!! ** edit, I also noticed in this months Sound on sound that Audio app's are starting to take advantage of nvidea's GPGPU platform apparentlly reverb processor plug in's and audio effect's benifit substantially, with the added bones off not causing a cpu hit!!
oh yer, but nvidia will slaughter the buyers with there prices ( as always ), if nvidia's 5870 beater is £70-£100 dearer than the 5870, then bang for buck, people will go for the 5870, no way will i pay £100 for a few more fps, no way take care
Like the OP I run a 8800, though at 1280x1024. The 8800 is fine at this resolution, I can even turn on AA in some games! A 5850 will be the replacement - cost seems right, and most importantly it runs cool, quiet and consumes next to no power (relatively speaking).
but will they (i'm thinking between £300 £350 wich is no so bad considering how much more you can do via gpgpu) , as a general rule n-videa card's are more expensive, but then they are (high end at least) better. Ati's gpu's are fantastic there's no doubt, they give high performance at a good price... I'm not about bashing ati, but pls don't try to tell me that a 4870 beets a 280gtx or even that 4890 beets a 285 or even 4870x2 beets a 295 in terms off overall performance. They do whowever win in in terms off "bang per buck" that means you get more power per pound! Just cuz you like ati, dont mean you "have" to hate nvidea dous it?
almost everytime you post i get confused as to what your saying/what point you're trying to make. he said that nvidia price gouges, which is true, and that bang for buck ati will typically be the better buy, which is true, and you agree with in your post (i think). so how is he bashing nvidia? everytime someone has a negative point about nvidia doesn't mean they are bashing it... as to your points about ati beating nvidia, who said the 4870 would beat a gtx 280? or a 4890 would beat a gtx 285? no one, and why would they. they aren't competing cards and nowhere near eachother in price. and the 4870x2 did handle the gtx 295 in price to performance, and was the better performer in many games. i'm just at a total loss as to where these points of yours are valid to anything anyone is posting...
I thaught "slaughter the buyer's" was a bit strong, esp as nvidea cards are notoriosly expensive to manufacture, Also the point about the cards being £400 + inacurate typically nvidea's top end single gpu cards are at launch £300 to £350 seeing as ati's 5870 is selling around £310 (allthough i rekon ati will drop prices when nvid drops fermi as I think they might be milking the market a little atm, allthough who can blame them this is a war after all(all be it a price war XD) This means for the "enthusiast user" get's for 30 to 50 pounds more a gpu wich will (hopefully if the pr is to beleived be MUTCH more powerfull than ati's (actual procesing power) The thing is ok so some game favour ati's simpler design but the gtx's can play all games at a decent framerate but also has the power there for games like crysis where its needed, i sertainly dont care if lose frame rate's to ati's hardwair some games wich are generally less demmanding anyhow, esp if I'm getting good enuff frame rates to play the game maxed out anyway Dont you think there's a reason every single dream pc featured nvidea cards? it's becaus if price isnt a problem they are better, if you cant understand that then there's no point in my trying to persevere with this. Also if wernt for directx11 i wouldn't even be thinking of upgrading my gtx's as they still perform so well (money well spent in my book) but trig so far you seem to love jumpin on my post's do you have a problem with me? Its only my opinion after all (and that off a few high profile pc building company's ) am I not worthy to use this forum somehow? And i didn't say he was bashing nvidea I said I wasnt bashing ati? please if your going to correct me again at least read my post's? is that to much to ask?
Alright, well I plan on buying myself a 5870 from Fry's this weekend since Newegg is currently all out of stock. The only brand that they have is Diamond; are they good?
hrtz...man...til you can make sense, dont bother addressing me...i have no idea what you just posted... klutch...i havent used diamond as their warranty wasn't really worth a crap, but i don't imagine that it would be a bad buy since it is just stock cards atm...
no it is because they had to plan the spec of the computer a couple of months before they started building the pc as there was much planing and work put into the pc's
Hmm... their website shows that they only have a one year warranty. That should be good enough I suppose. Finally a new graphics card! Ill post 3dMark scores if anyone is interested; and if anyone wants benchmarks I could do those too. I won't have a problem using one normal 6 pin connector and one 6 pin->2 Molex connector (like the picture) will I?
I think I'm fine, but I'm not sure. I have a 600W Ultra XVS for now. I definitely plan on buying a new power supply (HX650) as my next upgrade after the GPU; but my credit card doesn't have enough headroom to buy both at once. Here are what Ultra quote as the specs for my power supply; and I'll be running the same rig that's in my sig, but with the GTS replaced with the 5870.
I'm not really liking the 35A on the 12V rail. Most components run off the 12V rail these days and considering that you're oc'ing that Q6600 you just might get close to the limit of the 12V rail. Remember, it isn't so much the wattage/power as much as it is how that power is distributed. The distribution on your PSU suggests that it is about 4-5 years old (too much on the 3.3V and 5V rails in respect to the 12V rail). It might be prudent looking into a new PSU, also.
yeah, azrawl may be on it, 35 seems tight. i know the new cards are less power hungry, but amps is a different story...the hx650 is a sweet choice btw. tbh right now you might be better served by getting the psu and waiting on the card, unless someone can confirm the 5870 only needs about 25 amps.
Would it be better if I kicked the Q6600 back down to stock speeds? I know with that I can get the voltage way down from where it is now; and then once I get the HX650 I could put it back up?
I took Trig and Azrael's advice about my power supply and just bought the HX650 on Newegg (for $10 less than the HX620); so there's now a delay on me getting a new graphics card. I guess nVidia is getting their chance to wow my with Fermi.
Good choice! I'm sure your current graphics card(s) will tide you over for a bit longer. If nothing else, prices will drop (one way or the other ) and availability will get better.
true...that psu is awesome, and if nothing else, you should get a better deal on whichever card you buy...nice job
