Wow...lots of replies since I checked this topic at 8AM from school... (on a mac incidentally :D )

This is definately something I wouldn't like to see, cause people moaning generally annoys me, and even more so about iPods, however this could either be solved by a) making a sticky where people can moan about it or b) put a rule in place that you can only ask for help or discuss things rather than flat out whining.

I really wanted to vote for pie, but decided yay instead.

I do not use a mac. I probably never will (due to comfort zones and laziness). But sometimes I like to play around, and it would be really useful to have an Apple forum geared towards geeks and not artists.

Let me clarify: I would love to be an artist, I work alongside an artist, and I think artists are smart, intelligent, and very talented. I do not, however, hold geeky conversations with my artist coworker about technology because our needs are different, and therefore cannot be compared. If there were a geeky forum, such as bit-tech, that had an Apple forum, and we kept it fairly geeky, then I'd enjoy it. (Such as, how do I install gnome over OSX? or even newbie geeks like me: How do you get to a command line in OSX?)

So as long as we banned the PC vs. Mac threads, I think we'd be good.

    But more importantly, mmmmmmm... pie!

    your obviously an idiot.
what would be wrong with an apple forum? both user would probably be able to gain from being able to reach good resources. It would be really handy for me since I use both Pcs and MACs all the time. both have thier place. and as for bitching about ipods or anything else. whats a new forum going to do to increase that? you can bitch about that anywhere. and if noone is aloud to bitch about stuff then this place and many other sites would be alot lighter in thier content.

This ain't Hexus! And anyway, if we made an Apple one, someone would sue BT unless they added an orange, banana, and grape forum as well :worried:

I was refering to both actually, and now that I am in posession of a keyboard I will do as promised ;)

You totally left HP out of that man! If you're going to have a printers forum I demand that you have an HP subforum at the very least. Other websites do it!!!

    :D

Seriously, there are several mac websites out there. If you want to discuss your latest little fruity richard simmons edition iMack, visit one of those websites. One of the biggest themes on bit-tech is modding, and if there was ever anything that was anti-modding Apple would fit the bill.

Plus in my experience (and no offence to people who own macs), a mac forum would provide an unwanted draw for the average joe mac luser.

If you absolutely have to discuss macs here, do so in the already provided hardware and software forums. It doesn't say anywhere that the hardware and software forums are exclusive to PCs, does it?

I have to disagree with you there. I would have said 2-3 years ago BiT biggest theme was modding not anymore. If you look at the last few "big" cases to be featured on bit-tech Orac3, HL2 PC, Hypercube they all started off in the forums. If you look at the content bit-tech now provides I'd say there has definity been a shift to more general tech (columns etc). Not critizing BT or anything :thumb:

As for the "average joe mac luser", weren't we all "average joe PC users" at one point? What's the harm in attracting new mac users here? BT already attracts new PC users who want to learn more and one the best ways to learn is to join a forum. BT already has one the friendlist forums around I see no harm in welcoming mac users to this site. Heck maybe we would see some awesome mods come out of it.

I agree with you that it doesn't say anywhere that the hardware and software forums are exclusive to PCs, does it? Then again we have a SFF forum which could be part of modding / hardware. We have a music / tv / film forum that could be part of GD. Price checks could be part of FS and so on.

    Anyway that's my rant over.

Please note the above was typed whilst under the influence of beer. I did not intend any offense to any posters or bit-tech.

it would ease my struggle greatly if we had all the apple users in one place.

would make it easyer for me to implement my final solution.

seriously, if u mod a mac, post there

f u've got problem with it WELL YOU BOUGHT A MAC HAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH

    ha.

i just hate mac because the users are like johova whitnesses, they always want to try and convert you. Actually thats harsh on a mate of mine, whos a johova whitness and a very nice person (she's smarter than to try n convert me into a pyramid scheme heaven).

actually that's a good point, we need somewhere to shove all the "d34d iPod" girlies who won't shut up about trying to replace the battery etc...and then we can have all the other people who think the shuffle and minimac are GOOD in there! :D

    ^^^HA HA HA HA^^^
just like all of the PC users that tried to 'convert' me to buying a pc because I had a mac. it cuts both ways. whats the point?
oooo I have a PC blah blah blah... ooo I have a MAC blah blah blah.
who really cares. seriously. I get just as pissed on the mac forums I'm on when they spout the same crap about PCs. I obviously didn't by my mac to play the latest games and to mod the crap out of it. I also didn't buy my pc so I could edit video in Final Cut.

oh and my penis is bigger than your penis :thumb: good on ya.

    You seriously think that's funny? I Don't.:blah:

You may hate Mac users, and Apple per se - that's your perogative. But to say that they require a 'final solution', especially just after the 60th anniversary has brought the Holocaust to the forefront of everyones minds once again is just sick in my opinion.

Go sit in the corner for a week and think before you post. :grr:

    riscx.com :thumb:

As for all you Apple-haters in this thread: grow up already, ffs. No-one cares about your little insecurities.

[EDIT By GOO - Erm, Nexxo, that goes to the Riscx website. Did you mean to show us this link instead? ;)]

    http://www.macmod.com/

EDIT By Nexxo: sorry, my bad. :) I did mean to link to riscx.com but I tagged the link wrong. MacMod is another Mac modding site, but it seems to be off-line at the moment...

Just to interject this in between rounds of the heated debate...

Thanks everyone for expressing an opinion, whether for or against, as it all helps to improve the forums. </diplomatic>

Anyway, a few points really made me a bit annoyed really, because they show a general lack of knowledge on the part of some forum members. In particular, one comment about all Apple users being people who should be kept away from bit tech is incredibly stereotypical. I could look at some annoying person who uses a PC and say 'All PC users are like him/her.' but this would be completely wrong, and I don't see how it's any different when in this context.

I absolutely agree with that, excellently put across! :thumb:
