Good point. I myself was very quick to criticise the mac for a lot of things, even though I'd hardly used one. However now, after trying it out properly, I've started to get used to the interface and to be able to do more interesting things. It's definately not worth insulting macs/mac users before using a mac for more than 10 mins... :thumb:

Could we have an Etch-a-sketch forum please? :D

    seriously,
I get the impression that macs are much more popular in the states; here windows is (generaly) the standard os that people start off on, and graduate later to macs etc. Friends of mine with macs are all totally computer literate, run servers, code, etc etc. People can be very narrow minded sometimes.

not read the thread, but here's my opinion:

it barely takes any effort to create the forum,
then there's the matter of moderating it
    - if it's quiet then it's not much work
    - if it's busy there's more people to help.

It's not going to get in the way of anyone not interested, so why not.
    Just do it.

edit: just read the thread: and realise I should have included the fact that I don't own a Mac.
and probably some kind of lame joke and/or insult.

Why not implement a trial period, say 2 weeks with the forum to see how it goes? :D

    Yes to a Mac forum!
One of the reasons I like BT, is it's seemingly open mindset when it comes to Macs...course I may have been wrong...

Mac user since 1988 (but not rabid about it).

Mac's are not bad machines. Doesnt change the fact that I will never pay for one.

True, but dell's don't use a different OS or (for the most part) proprietary hardware.

Personally, I've used macs, I hate the interface (albeit it's my grandparents old as heck mac, probably os5 or something) but I wouldn't care in the slightest if you add it.

I also don't like the older Mac OS versions. OS X is a huge improvement and is a really terrific OS.
Well, it's pretty much the same thing here. Almost ever new computer user starts with Windows. In the States, Macs are used by a lot of artists and video editors. I expect Macs will be more prevelant in the UK in the coming years: Apple opened their London store this year and are planning to open several other s.

Why does everyone on these forums get so excited about Macs anyway? 5 pages on the prospect of starting a forum, tons of mini-mac threads...it's stupid considering we're meant to be techies, and yet the thing we find easiest to talk about is apple :sigh:

To be honest it will only expand the community and unless it is with a 'Burberry and Elizibeth Duke' forum can this really be a bad thing?

Start it up. You know it makes sense. I'll be first in with the 'Post Your Mac Pics' thread :D

Your attitude is completely closed-minded. So an Apple computer doesn't count as a proper computer? To be honest, it's just as much a computer as a PC. So anyone who enjoys using Apple computers is a computing novice?

Sit down and get your facts right. :eyebrow:

This is an enthusiast's website...you can't upgrade the graphics card, build one from scratch, play games on it...I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I just predict we'll get a lot of people working for Apple's switch campaign trying to switch everyone, and it might have little use here

wouldn't something like this be great for people that want to upgrade a mac without having to buy premade upgrades? couldn't people use the resources of the minds on this site in order to come up with mods that can be applicable to a mac? I read a post about overclocking a mac mini, it was neat even though the jumpers are about 2 mm wide at most.
wouldn't it be a great challenge to all of the master modders here to figure out a way to mod something that is generally not known for its ability to be modded? I would think there would be more avid modders here jumping on this as an opportunity to brainstorm and challenge themselves.

I agree with Haddy, really no new things are being said here, so if it's alright with everyone else, then could a mod please close the thread and maybe make a decision? :D
