You should run something like this on the 7-inch screen.

    And a matching black grill

And I got around to painting the side panel ports

If you found yourself with the time (and inclination) you could always do the keyboard as a side project. If you can't be bothered with trying to match the wiring up with a modern port, you could always wire the keys via something like an ipac, and have it optionally working, just for show ;)

I just made the decision that I will definitely be using a working LCD in the place of the CRT

Coming along wonderfully- I love it!
Just to ask, will there be room to use something like the small LCD tested in the front? It would be great to keep that original Commodore look with the screen too.

7" screen is too small. you should be looking for one that is slightly larger than the opening so you don't have all of that dead space around it. it's probably not practical, but if you can manage to pull the glass off of the crt tube safely it would look neat to keep that as well, keep the original look as much as possible. i also agree that making the keyboard at least semi functional would be good, maybe just do the numpad and map them to hotkeys or something like that. as an aside if you considered having an external optical, i have an old comodore 5.25" floppy drive housing i could donate you if you're interested.

Well at least not on high settings. I already threw away the CRT and when I had it, it seemed pretty solid. Probably too solid to remove the glass. How did you guess about the external tape?

I'll be using a 5 port PCI USB 2.0 card.

There's 4 ports on the back and one internally. The internal USB will be plugged into a Samsung SPF-87H digital photo frame. This frame is unique because when it's plugged into a computer via USB it can be used as a secondary monitor too.

Nice project. For details, think retro. The black wire fan grille is a perfect fit.

The screen needs a 10" TFT. Forget about cutting the front off the glass CRT tube; you are looking at an inch of toughened glass and then you'd have to polish off the inside phosphorescent layer. It would be better to cast a mould by turning the CRT face up, draping a sheet of transparent plexi over it and heating it in the oven so that the plexi goes soft and moulds over the curved surface --if you can find an oven big enough...

I have a sudden urge to de-gas a crt, and have a go with one of my tile saws...

So after long hours of consideration, I have decided to replace the keyboard with a modern working one

    Out with the old

Here's the keyboard I originally bought for my failed Dumb Terminal project

I'll have to change the hole a bit though. I still need to get a numeric keypad too

i have that keyboard. it's a good keyboard with mechanical switches. you might see if the key caps are compatible before you toss the pet keyboard if you haven't already. if you can at least save the letter keys that would keep it looking pretty close to stock. i don't know what kind of budget you have to work with, but if the btc keyboard dosen't work out, you might look and see if you can find any used happy hacker keyboards, as that might fit almost perfectly in the casing hole.

the pro models are pricey, but the lite ones aren't that bad at around $70 new. i've seen them go cheap used around $30. they're made really well though and have a nice tactility to them.

Well I got the frame in the mail

Here's the problem. The frame has it's input buttons on the back. Unfortunately, it's not a touch screen. When the frame is powered, this is what comes up.

When it's mounted in the Commodore it won't always be powered. This means that every time I boot up my PC this screen will appear. Since it's not a touch screen I would be forced to open the computer up pull it out and use the buttons on the back to tell it over and over again that it's a mini monitor!

This is just not possible. I have to use something else

    Unbelievable price for a PET.

I worked with a guy who turned one into a telescope controller and wrote the program on a working PET.

I bet he would call me a liar if I told him how much it is worth.......

Will be good to see the final project on this one.
