Oh, and 'Elite' providing it's the original BBC version - brings back memories of times when I should have been doing my O-level Computer Studies project :D

It has to be Final Fantasy VII....
The storyline was immense, you just fell in love with almost all of the characters, the gameplay was second to none, you know I just cannot name any flaws.... ^_^

As far as multiplayer games go...

I think if I chose by time spent, it would be something like:

3-way tie: TFC, original Day of Defeat (not the Valve crap), and America's Army 2.5
    Then BF2

There certainly aren't many. I'd say one flaw, though, was the inaccessibility of a lot of the game's higher (read: best) content. I completed it twice without having ever heard of Knights of the Round, Ultima, and so on; having never bred chocobo, let alone a Gold one. And I played it for a good 150 hours. It was one of the last of the 'Old' games, the legacy of titles that had really difficult hardcore content. After FFVII everything started getting easier/shorter.

Speedball 2 on the Amiga and probably Battlefield 2 for the sheer amount of hours I spent

    A-Train on the Amiga.....

    ... or....

Elite on the BBC model B

Also have a soft spot for Alien Breed (Amiga)
    Shadow of the Beast (Amiga)
    Quake 1 (PC)
    Myst (PC)

While I've played many, many games since that are brilliant... those 6 seem to remain firm faves.

    I still miss my 060 powered Amiga 4000 :(

I totally agree with the fact that after vii everything just became easier/shorter...modern games contain mini games and bonus levels but they aren't incorporated into the actual gameplay like the older games used to do, when i played ffvii through i played for a multitude of hours (i have lost count!) i have defeated al the ultimate weapons, collected all the summons, levelled all the characters up to level 99 (except a certain one :( ), got all the level 4 limit breaks and bred a gold chocobo (and no it wasnt lame either)....
I did everything i possibly could in that game because it was a game you could fall in love with and just keep playing.

What happened to that love in the newer games? :(

I posted just one game, so I shall now attempt a more complete list:

    F/TPS: Max Payne(1+2), Duke Nukem, HL2
    RTS: AoE 2(a true classic), C&C: RA2
Other: Civ IV, GTA: Vice City, Champ Manager 4

I forgot Head Over Heels and Hitchhiker's Guide; both true classics on the Amstrad (impressive given I'm 19, no?).
