Another game on the Comodor 64 was Archon (battlechess type game). Or how about one of the original atari games - Tank, spent hours on that one.
ahh, fond memories of my console days coming back. Just some games; Bomberman - the best and multiplayer Sonic series Mortal kombat Alex Kidd and there are some pc games,; Dune 2 - first played this on an amiga, now have the pc one Duke nukem - wow, perfection
OMG!!! Bomberman!! Used to play that with me mates and brothers and it was absolutely brilliant I have to say, the addictiveness of that multiplayer does not come close to CS, Q3 or UT2k3 - Im dead serious Also liked 2D scrolling shoot 'em ups that had craploads of enemies to blast your stuff at, something like R-Type, Hellfire or Super Thunderblade with huuuuuuuuuge supers such as a beam that cleared the whole screen with a big flash That was mighty satisfying
This talk about side scrolling shooters reminds me of the best top down shooter: The Raiden Project. Old arcade game, I probably spent about $1000 playing this in arcades....... Also Street Fighter II. The best one. Me and my friends played that until our hands hurt. Me and my one friend played that until our hands were bleeding, split open knuckles, chaffed palms, it was just like actually fighting..... *drools uncontrollably*
commander keen, the origional duke nukem, and duke nukem 2 (for the un-initiated, were 2d platformers and mucho fun!!!) castle wolfenstien rocked, as did doom doom2 and the origional quake! i was also a huge fan of cannon fodder, god that was so addictive! and a game called baldies was fun, for around 1/2 a day. the ultimate golden oldie game has to be civ. i lost days of my life playing that, and i much prefer it to the likes of civ2, alpha centaurie and civ3 (which was pants imho, but oh well). not forgetting the 5minute wonder games like jazz jackrabbit, the earth worm jim series and the ever amazing spinoffs of jizz jackrabbit (ie the xmas version and jackrabbit 2) and who can forget lemmings (me, thank god!) apogee = teh win!
lol, the very first earthworm jim was absolutely funny! As well as number 2, but it lost it as soon as it went 3D But they were good tbh, i havent pld civ...I see it for 99p on sale so, i might take a look at it oooh and lemmings! Also, i loved beneath a (or the?) steel sky! That lovely point and click action and the plot It was great The only 2D fighter i play is Marvel vs Capcom on me CPS2 emulator, but that isnt a golden oldie me finx
Couple I haven't noticed mentioned: Settlers and Settlers 2 (settlers 3 just wasn't as fun). Worms!!!
I can't believe nobody's mentioned Jet Pac on the Speccy or Attic Attack, Knight Lore or one probably no one else will remember High Rise Harry. Those were the days.....
i did actually love the settlers 2 veni vidi veci! and worms is a classic, how could i have missed it out!!! GRENADE!!!!! BOOOM!!! hehe baaa baaa baaaa BOOM!
damn, how did that one escape me?! nearly every day of my first year at uni was spent playing 4-player Worm Armageddon on the Dreamcast (we had nearly 100 games for the DC but Worms was rarely removed from the console!!!) few others for Nintendo peeps: Solar Jetman (NES) Snake Rattle 'n Roll (NES) Any Super Mario game (NES/SNES) Marble Madness (NES) Yoshi's Island (SNES) F-Zero (SNES) sure there's more....
my faves are sonic 2 (megadrive) make my video ( c+c music factory) (mega cd) nite trap (mega cd) i actley went and noted down the times that the monstaes came out and what room dinablaster/bommerman (amiga) i still rember every nite since my sisters boyfirend got that game, we played it every nite till late mega-lo-mainer (amiga) mega man serise (nes) delux pacman (amiga) i found one big bug with that game, i was so good that each time i got a high score teh amiga would crash !! and i do rember going thrue a lot of bug joysticks on that game as well
Spy Hunter Dizzy Seymour Frankie Goes To Hollywood Arkanoid Battlezone Yie Ar Kung Fu Not AS old: Golden Axe Streets of Rage Shinobi Micro Machines Mortal Kombat Street Fighter
Elevator action - I still have it for the original GB Ikari Warriors and teh one I can't believe no one posted Castlevania One time I came across an arcade version of Castlevania that had the quarter slot broken (where it was always playing) and I played for like 4 hours. Good memories.
Hmm - Had Atari paddle system but the classics have to be from my rubber keyed speccy with 48k of ram - not that 16k rubbish... Horace Goes Skiing Jetpac Lunar Jetman Manic Miner Way of The Exploding Fist Saboteur - mindblowing game when it came out Arcade stylee..... Double Dragon (I held the National High Score for months and months ) Supersprint Tetris And What about the BEST footy game EVER (BY FAR!!) Sensible Soccer (of course!)
BWAHAHA ph34ar my 128k spectrum 128k +2a (which still lives in the attic) More games that rule: Knight Lore 360 skateboarding Robocop Cobra (Stallone, worked like 1ce ever) and, um, what was that game with the kids with the dog? Great platformer, will check when sober..
