Just a small purchase of a couple of USBC to micro usb adapters so I can leave one in my Cloud Flight headphones.

They were a bargain but only have a micro usb charging port which repeatedly using is making me uneasy that it'll get borked one of these days.

One of them can happily just live in there permanently.

Got a few quotes for overhauling the garden, averaging £8k. Not willing to spend that much on a garden when we'll probably be moving house in 4-5 years, so we're just going to give it a bit of a spruce and make the most of what's there, maybe put in a bit of decking so we've got a decent sized area for seating. And since we're making a massive saving ( :worried: ) , I bought a new BBQ.
Char-Broil Gas2Coal Special Edition 4-Burner Gas & Charcoal Hybrid BBQ
    [IMG]
Does gas, or charcoal or both, has a side burner that can get mentally hot for searing steaks etc, and got a griddle that goes on it for veg, onions etc. Steaks is something we'll use this for on a fairly regular basis outside of usual BBQ affairs, so going for the special edition with that feature over the standard one with just has a ring burner seemed like the right choice. Plus it's the cheaper of the 2 at John Lewis thanks to 20% off, the standard is cheaper elsewhere, but John Lewis customer service and 0% finance also swung it.

I had a moment of weakness...

    It's all @Byron C 's fault, he knows I have non-existent impulse control.

It arrived today, but I couldn't play with it, because I had to take the missus out for a posh dinner - something about 25 years being important. Yeah, like playing with my homelab isn't important!

Quite a few odds & ends lately.

Xeon E5-2690 v4 - 14 core, 28 thread, 2.6GHz base, 3.5GHz boost, 135W nominal TDP. Messed about by a previous seller with an E5-2680 v4 that was never sent, so got a refund and ordered this as a replacement.

Replacement “gumstick” batteries & NiMH charger for my old MiniDisc portable that was dug out recently.

Meaco “Sefte” pedestal fan. It’s quieter at low speeds, but beyond that it seems pretty much the same as the 1056P in terms of air-moving power. It stands slightly higher and tilts further downwards than the 1056P, so much more ideal in a bedroom in hot weather (e.g. have it pointing down at the bed from above instead of just blowing air at my feet). You can limit the extent of vertical and horizontal oscillation, which is also damn handy when it’s at the foot of our bed. And you can turn off the flippin’ annoying beeps!

Outdoor IP55-rated junction box. For housing a PoE router in the shed, which runs my new CCTV setup.

20mm and 25mm cable glands for the above.

4-20mm stepped drill bit, because it’s pretty damn hard to cut a 20mm hole in a plastic box when the largest drill bit you have is 8mm.

@Byron C any specific use case for the Xeon? I considered getting one from the same range and doing the all cores turbo unlock, but ultimately decided to get a 5960X instead for OC potential (pretty easy 4.4GHz with HT on, but it gets hawt). I'm still amazed how capable the LGA2011 platform is.

    Yep, upgrading this:

There's a whole chain of software/VM/container work all waiting for the CPU upgrades on this host! I can't move more VMs/containers to it until I upgrade the RAM in it, and I can't swap in the 64GB ECC RAM I bought in until I replace the 5820K (which doesn't support ECC).

Ayyyy! We also recently got a Stihl battery mower from my cousin (she's decided to move off to Exeter, from the Reading area) and isn't going to have much of a lawn at her new place. So we got it for a decent price. Lovely mower, nice and quiet. The self-propulsion is a bit overkill for us as our small lawn is dead flat nowadays :hehe:

Heh my 5820K has been a paperweight for a couple of months now. Hard to believe I paid £300 for it back in 2017, at which time that was a damned good price, and now it's selling virtually for pennies.

    5x brand new blank discs

Amazingly, Sony are still manufacturing new MiniDiscs. Not the hardware, but the discs themselves. Many people see MiniDisc as a “failure”, but it was massively popular in Japan (MiniDisc was not a failure, not even in the West).

When my uncle passed away I vowed to treat my aunt once a month. And mum, too.

This month I got my aunt a bottle of tropical rum. She loves a drink, and it is her wedding anniversary soon so I figured she could pour one out for my unc and have a drink (she loves a drink lol). Any way, mum has been going on and on about these Murano drinking glasses. Problem? they are very expensive. About £120 for a set of four plus postage (about £30 from Italy).

So I had a poke on Ebay and found someone selling them separately for £15 each. So I got her two. That's enough, given they will probably get broken lol.
