Use a full set of parts so the case is whats unique. Also I dont think youre gonna get much good out of 24 hours. Also I have a good idea for the next comp so whos organising it?

Out of the three who submitted renderings for this contest, do you want to start a poll thread for the rendering portion of this contest or start a new design contest for next month?

I think it would be hard to pull off a 24hr design and I think you would loose a lot of participants. I think a shorter timeline wouldn't be bad. Instead of only designing one case maybe 4 cases, one per week? And you would be judged on all four as a group?

For the next design contest Id kinda like to see a contest based around a theme. Steampunk, Sci-Fi, Cars, Movies, eras (50's, 60's 70's), you get the Idea. I think it would be fun to see everyones different interpretations of a theme. Id love to see a "Young Frankenstein" case going against a "Snakes on a Plane" case or a Lamborghini case vs a Ferrari case. :hehe:

I'd be up for having a go at a speed contest :) may be a bit tough and unfair though as the time people can devote to it would vary a lot.

I Like the idea of themes you could also just do a keyword like "speed" "Flow" "Clarity" etc

As for the rendering portion.. I'm not fussed what we do :p

Exact themes are far to restrictive. A lot of contestants post stuff they intend to build. "Build something with a theme" might work...:worried:
Speed is bad too. It would require an open schedule, and first-timers would be totally put out.
I'm up for another SFF. -Maybe working around one of the new ITX gaming boards?
+1 Editor. Something as vague as a keyword would be OK for a theme. The mobility theme got us some interesting stuff.

    Whee! I'm in random mode!

Also: we need to start numbering these b*tches!

Ill stay out of the next one unless i know i can finish all the stages.

Why dont we have a design comp then a rende comp then a build comp. Winners for each and you must enter both design and build but render is optional. Always wanted to do that.

Most of us can't afford the build portion!

Not to mention the fact that 98% of entrants are either currently in the process of a build or don't have enough free time for one :(

    Sorry to hijack this thread.

Are there any render programs that work with Sketch Up , the free version ?

Had my first play with SU yesterday :D

( my next build project )

    Dissapointed i can't render it.

I've had a go with Kerythea , but i doesn't support the SU 'Free version' files.

I used to do some 3D modelling in Maya, and miss the lighting and rendering - The best bit :D

    Cheers,

    Mark

Oh, Did someone just find ANOTHER feature disabled by the last "update"? :eyebrow:

    Like the rig.:thumb:

@tit...13eightyfour - Don't let that stop you! Join in and contribute, Otherwise the contest will suck!
@Motas - The idea behind the contest is to model something you could never afford/build in real life. It opens up the imagination to infinite possibilities and creates some really fantastic ideas, (that I promptly steal.:D)
-Besides... Do you really want to wait 3 years for me to finish my build so you can start a new contest?

Something tells me I don't really need to be included in that poll

What of there were cash prizes for design and rendering comp? Also it would be a long competition so everyones not in a rush to get it done and have crap results.

    *cough*
Where's this cash going to come from, man?:hehe: Bill's doing it for an advert/tax write off. Everything I've dropped in were experiments and prototypes, TheGreatSatan Dropped us some stuff he didn't need, and Confusis (Was it confusis? my memory sucks,) had access to a big printer he wanted to play with. It's all charity at this point.
We're a small batch of members running an unofficial contest under Bit-Tech's skirt. (kilt?)
-The idea of a pay-to-play system was shot down too. We won't get any contestants that way, and money handling becomes an issue. Where will you cash a check written in Swiss Franks?

Id love to do a keyword theme for the next contest. Leave it open to any form factor as long as if follows the basic theme.

    Any ideas for different words?

    tortuous: \TOR-choo-us\ , adjective;

    1. Marked by repeated turns and bends; as, "a tortuous road up the mountain."
    2. Not straightforward; devious; as, "his tortuous reasoning."
    3. Highly involved or intricate; as, "tortuous legal procedures."

Origin: Tortuous is from Latin tortuosus, from tortus, "a twisting," from the past participle of torquere, "to twist."

    Could produce some interesting designs?

    "The Crushinator!"

-a basic animal theme would be good too. What I wanted to design this time fits in with 'torturous' though.:D
