One assumes they're using the short bus version of 'special' when referring to special forces because that was a piss poor attempt at a car bomb.

Or maybe it was calculated to have this exact effect - low damage but everyone talking about it. A Tesla vehicle outside a Trump building and easily rubbished as a bed full of fireworks...

Or he changed his mind and decided to go to kingdom come alone.

Or it was an accident, like that guy a few years back who tripped a booby trap he'd himself installed in his house. Maybe his bomb was poorly wired and went off too early. Who knows?

I was amused to read this article about Meta deploying an LLM to run fake profiles to boost engagement on Facebook... until they started interviewing the LLM, which is fun for a gag (I asked ChatGPT a question that I ran in an article about its launch back when that was the new shiny) but they appear to be taking entirely seriously.

Like... it might reveal that the development team was "10 white men, 1 white woman, and 1 Asian male," but... it might also just make that up. In fact, it almost certainly will 'cos why would the identities of the development team be included in its training data or (more likely) hidden pre-prompt?

I swear, people are treating these things like Delphic oracles. Remember when I was trying to identify that Acorn Archimedes game? I had someone on Masto, who swore up and down they were an AI sceptic, tell me that it's the sort of question LLMs are brilliant at answering. So I got him to try. Surprise surprise, it provided an answer-shaped object which had zero basis in fact. And then "corrected" itself when prompted... to another answer-shaped object with zero basis in fact. And so on, and so forth.

Even the stuff they're actually supposed to be good at - like summarisation - doesn't work properly. As Apple is discovering. They don't summarise, they shorten at best - and invent at worst.

Wake me up when the bubble pops.
