I've been wanting to put together a linux box for a while, and I've finally collected enough spare parts to do it. I decided to spice up the plain beige case I snagged from my uncle by also making this my first pink P.C. Yes, I am a girl. So, here's the case I'm starting out with. Just a plain beige case, but pretty nice. One of the main things that I was confused about was how to get the front off of my DVD drive so that I could paint it. Thanks to the helpful members here, I figured it out without much trouble after the tip that you need to open the drive Here are my primered components Next stop, pink paint!
First coat of pink! I'm going to let it dry, probably overnight, and then see if it needs another coat(it probably will, especially on the sides). Then I plan on using a glossy top coat.
well, I'm trying to think of something good to put in the case badge spot. It'll be my first time installing Linux and I'm planning on using SUSE.
I know I've seen case badges with the Linux Powered log on them, just can't remember where. Good luck with Linux, it owns.
Maybe u could do a nice cutout in the side panel and use some pink lighting (perhaps even etch Tux - the penguin - in the plexi Just some ideas... Cant stop grinning though, a pink case... funneh
Its not the first time something 'crazy' like this has been done, but it should turn out nice. Shannon: If you want a nice cd drive, perhaps you could also paint the CD tray pink to match the cover. You would have to take it out or mask it off well though.
Interesting. I looked at the tray and it doesn't look like it'd be too hard to mask off. I might try painting the tray tomorrow. I'm not into the idea of cutting, but I was thinking maybe some sort of decal or stenciling/painted design. Would acrylic paint work okay on top of the spray paint? Like for something small like some flowers? Hey, if that works maybe I could paint on my own design in the "case badge" spot, which I feel is really to obvious looking to be left alone. I could do the fancy paint before the glossy clear coat. Or perhaps some sort of decopauge type action before the glossy coat.
Something I'd really like to do is a Supergirl type S with maybe like white and light pink. I think it's either that or some casual flowers, like the kind I would get done on my nails except of course at a different scale. It's a combination of two of my loves; computers and pink. Yes, I am a girl
and that.. lady and gentlemen is a prime example of a horny nerd. Nice pink case... can't say i'd ever paint a case pink.. although it is "in" when it comes to web design at the moment.. But only on black... A black case with pink detailing... that sounds cool... Anyhoo, keep modding
Go for a white/pink S or if you think you've got the skills, and since this is a linux box, take a look at the tux gallery and find a nice mascot to paint on the side of the PC. I'm not into pink but this could be a "pretty" computer.
Paint job looks nice and flat, not bad for a firsttimer.. I also suggest Supergirl over flowers. I must admit you're definitely the first modder-girl I've seen
how's that? yeah, I think I'm definitely going to try the supergirl S. If I can't find something good to trace/stencil, I might see if my younger sister can help me with it, she's a good painter. I took scene painting classes, but I don't really want, like, clouds and trees on my box.
