    UPDATE 3-1-05

well i have been working on the case last night and here is what i have done...

i marked the top panel for the holes that i need to drill.....

    here are the holes drilled...

then i fogged some perfectly clear plexi :worried:  oh well...

tested the lighting features and found them satisfactory....

then i cut the notches in the plexi for the bolts to hold it to the preferated metal...

added all of the nuts and bolts to the mix and put the whole job together and you get the finished product...

put some blue cold cathode tubes behind the fogged plexi and you get this...

That's a nice effect, looks much better frosted than not so don't worry about frosting a nice clear piece. And with all of those bolts, that thing sure isn't going anywhere :geek:

Very awesome man. I have a thing for old, huge cases and this one is great.

I envy your shop. Plasma torch, jig saw, band saw...*drool* I was excited when I got a dremel!

    UPDATE 3-9-05!!!!

well i had some time so i thought that i might get a little more done on this beast of mine. first off here is what i have bought and found to add to this project.....

i have always needed a good set of small files. all the ones that i have are way bigger than i need for stuff like this. :D

this was headed for the trash can and i have an idea for its new purpose... more on that later.

pulled this from the box above as well as some other circuitry....man i have so many plans for this thing...

had this thing lying around...and guess what it fits perfectly in the psu box :thumb: more pics of that later when i finalize that
    [IMG]

    insides of the ups

    on to the important stuff!!

i cut all of the frames to go around the windows. these things were a bear because the metal is not that thick so i had to be super careful. i think i did ok...

here is a shot of the door nearing completion!!

man lots of nuts and bolts...so much so i ran out and had to get more.

as for now i am out of pics. i will work on this thing tonight and post some pics tomorrow :naughty:

well there is the short answer and the long answer

the short one is i sanded it.

the long one is i used a hand held electronic sander and i started out with 220 grit paper then worked my way up so i could be sure to get complete coverage. if you just use a high grit on the plexi the scratches will be easier to spot. anyway thats basically what i did. if you use an electronic sander make sure you move it around in circles. if you keep it in one spot or press down you might get patterns in the plexi that are verry difficult to get out. if you hse a hand sander try to avoid one hand motion. also in either case make sure that it is pretty even all over the whole piece. make sure that you even get the edges. i have seen some people doing frosted plexi in these forums and the results were somewhat lacking. anyway good luck to you :thumb:

BTW i am working on the case right now i should have an update tonight, untill then MOD ON!!

i got it from a local metal shop in my town. usually metal shops or yards should have something like what you are looking for. of course the bigger the range of supplies that the store offers the less of a chance that you will be able to find something as specific as what you want.

since you are over the pond i can not offer any specific solutions to your search. however i can suggest that you crack the phone book and look for a metal shop and ask them where they get their stuff from. or if there is nothing like that around you start at a local hardware store or something. i don't think there is an international shipper for that kind of thing. sorry i couldn't provide any definate solutions :sigh:

BTW i have done a bunch of work and i have pictures to post however it is late and i need to get my beauty sleep :eeek:
