Hi Guys, This is my first ever project log, so please excuse any protocol gaffs and point me in the right direction. Cheers! Having put up with Beige boxes for years and years and quite recently becoming addicted to this forum I decieded to go for it and start project : Black Widow. Not being particually good behind a saw or a dremmel (more practice needed) ,I deceided to try and limit any cutting involved and see what I could come up with. I've been buying bits over the last few weeks and now have the basics to begin construction (except for the graphics card which I'll be getting tomorrow). You may have guessed by now that it is going to be based on a coolermaster 201BXT I really like the design and finish on this case and the fact It already has a window I deceided on a ICG7 motherboard after reading the various reviews (nothing at all to do with the really cool looking mb fan ) More Very Soon.....
Update... The power supply I went for was an Enermax, and very nice it is too. Here it is mounted in the case. As you can see the Molex power leads are a little messy at the moment (understatement of the year). But I've got some brading on order so I sould be able to tidy that up a little later. The CPU I went for was a 2.8 Ghz 800Mhzbus (4x200) P4. Again good asthetics being essental for the project I bought a Coolermaster Aero 4 cooler, I really like the unusual design and think it will look great through a well lit window. Again, more very soon, so stay tuned......
Update.... I want to be able to do a little bit of overclocking on this system so I didn't want to skimp on the memory, so heres what I got. Heres a shot of the mother board fitted on the tray And with the cooler fitted..... I thought it was starting to look quite cool at this stage, so I couldn't resist sliding the tray back into the case and taking another shot. I'am quite pleased with it so far, and will be doing more updates tomorrow, in the meantime if you guys have any ideas they will be gratefully received.
Update.... I've got the system up and running now fitted some neon string and a blue cold cathode. Need to sort the beige drives out next and get my hands on a Aerogate II which I'am going to mod black.(if anybody knows where I can get one in the UK, please let me know). I'am also going to replace the front fans with ones fitted with red led's, put some car window tint on the case window (macro black style), with a contrasting etch. Heres a pic anyway, sorry about the quality, had to disable the flash on the camera so needed a longer exposure and I havn't got a tripod.
looks, good though it is another bloo case (mines bloo too shhhh) the el wire inside around the vid card could use some help imo though... lookin good
I paid £143.97 for the case from Scan.co.uk, but found it cheaper since from overclockers.co.uk £111.53 Doh!!!(both prices including tax). Doh!! It's a Coolermaster ATC-201B-BXT 'Black Widow' Thanks for the feedback, hoping to get another ele wire, and tidy things up abit once I get a Aerogate II. Hoping the plex front on the Aerogate will come off and I can put in a black underlay, from the pictures I've seen it looks like it will.
I've got a black floppy on order along with a black alu coolermaster drive cover, so that should improve things a little.
Looking good for a first mod, not too sure about the neon string but hey each to there own Just want to say keep an eye on the Aero 4 I had one for 2 weeks and then the bearings gave up and the fan stopped spinning. Lucky I was there when it happened.
Update.... Just fitted my coolermaster Black Alloy bezel to the cd drive, looks really cool. More updates soon....
Update... Heres how the case looks now, when switched off. I've decided make a case effects control panel in my 3.5 bay below my floppy drive. These are the switches I went for (Press on, Press off). Should look quite cool when mounted. I don't know weather just to mount them directly on the metal drive blanking plate or use plexi and sandwich a transparancy to go between with the control labels. Think I may also paint the end of the switches with black enamel so they match the other buttons on the case. More updates soon....
Nice switches! I think they look great just plain silvery, but the rest of your case is lurvly'n'black, so they would stick otu a bit. Please tell me where you got them from, and how much?? These could be perfect for my CCFL switchs on AA. -cLoWn
bad ass switches man! I would mount them directly on to the blanking plate, so the front matches your entire case...
Update.... Got the switches from maplin for £3.99 each, bit expensive I know but very nice. Look for 'Locking Foot Switch', you should find them no problem. Thanks for the feedback guys decided to mount directly on the blanking plate (Thanks RAMeLaiR). Still don't know if I am going to paint the ends of the buttons yet, I'll see what it's like once it's mounted in the case. I've just drilled out the blanking plate and fitted the switches. I'll post another picture once I've fitted it.
Update.... I've mounted the blanking plate into the case it see what it looks like.... Think I need to clean the face of the case a little, those finger marks are starting to look bad under a flash. (Anybody know the best thing to clean these cases with?) Anyway, any comments observations will be gratefully recieved.
Hi there, Liking the case. Looks expensive. That blanking plate looks great, and for what it's worth, I think you ought to keep the silvery colour of the switches rather than paint them. A bit of contrast works really well I reckon. As for cleaning, just use a soft cloth sprayed lightly with multipurpose cleaner. That's what I use on my anodized hi-fi unit. Just remember to spray the cloth and not the expensive electronic equipment... Keep up the good work
