    Plexi Update!!

I have FINALY got hold of "some" plexi :D It is 4mm thick and approximately 1,5m X 2m (you should have seen the looks i got from all the druk people (we have a festival now) as I walked down the street, carrying this :D).
I'm sorry for the strange angle of the pics...

    Here goes:

(Yes that is my side door laying on top of the plexi)

you gonna be reselling that or do you think you really need that much for the project, or are there other projects involved you haven't (or have and i wasn't paying attention) told us about yet?

oh, and that dragon looks awesome, i need to work my dremmel skills up to that level before i start cutting my preciousss case.

Well... I have lots of plans running in the back of my head (won't reveal the bis secret, but it's a big one!) It is always good to have some plexi laying around :) and I'm going to use a little piece of it to test out different techniques and speeds for my engravings :) and since I have never engraved or even worked with plexi at all before, I think I need some practice :thumb:

Thanks man :) since I had never cut anything complicated before this dragon, I am really pleased with the result :baby: I have waycation on friday (because of Ragean), so maybe I'm going to mod a bit then :) as I have written before... It really isn't as hard as it looks, but I have seen your project and your cut outs are going to be much more detailed than mine :dremel:

    Haha :hehe: <fiddling with a gold ring> "My own, My precious" </fiddling with a gold ring> :D

Here's a tiny update on what Iæm going to do to morrow :)

I'm going to cut out the marked areas... sorry about the blitz... I hate the blitz on this camera, because it's too strong! don't buy Ixus 400 if you plan to take pics of your mod...

I think there will be an update on the finished plexi about 3 o'clock tomorrow, so stay tuned :thumb:

Today I have cut out some of the plexi, and just for fun I tried to engrave a sketch into some excess plexi.

This is what I started with. I put the large plexi plate ontop af some dvds (4 on top of eachother to get an appropriate hight). I used a bow saw to fut the plexi.

This is what I I have cut so far. Top window and side door plexi (for the dragon). the third plate is the excess plexi.

Now this was the first time I have ever engraved in plexi so don't be too harsh on your judgement :) it is eluminated by my fan controll because I haven't got any LEDs here. (I ordered the alle the parts today). It will be eluminated by 3mm ultra bright green LEDs. :naughty:

oh dear.. is that little thing what you used for cutting the plexi? You should seriously concider takeing advantage of some naiv friend and borrow his jigsaw :D
    jigsaw+metal blade(fine teeth)=nicely cut plexi :dremel:

and I think the front door will look wicked with that engraved window in it.. :thumb: I take it you will use green leds to light that too!?

hehe isn't a jigsaw electric? I tried to cut with dremel. but the plexi melted (although I ran it on the lowest speed), and it took too long. The actual cuts are quite clean, but iI find it hard to cut in a 100% straight line.

Yep yep yep. I'm going to use Green ultra bright LEDs to light the windows :thumb: I hope it will look coool :naughty:

BTW: I have experimented with sanding the plexi (for use behind the dragon) but I can't really tell how it will turn out since I only have the leds from my fan control to try it on... So I have to get back on you on that one :dremel:

yes, its electric, but it has far far lower speed than the dremel.. I used it to cut my plexi, and it didnt melt at all!

I think I have to postpone the pics because I have 2 exams to morrow, one on tuesday, one on wednesday and one on thursday, so I have to study now... In approximately 2 weeks I'll recieve the parts from the US :D then I will test everything woth leds, install the water cooling, sleeve my psu, cut holes for 2 80mm fans in the back of my case, make the bracket for my water tank ( I haven't decided If I'm going to put it inside the 3,5" bracket or if I'll make a new one (like in the sketches on the first page).

A small step for the world, but a giant leat for me!

I have now started something I have dreaded for a long time... The paint job... I will over the next days finish the left side door (the jagged one), and try my best to obtain that mirror finish i have always wanted.

Now this is the schedual I will use over the next days (approximately):
*Priming... 4 coats.. let dry over night... wet sand it...
*Priming... 4 coats.. let dry over night... wet sand it...
*Base coat... 4 coats... let dry over night... wet sand it...
*Base coat... 2 coats... let dry over night...
*Wet sand with grit 1500 and 2000 (maybe 1800 if I cant find 2000).
*2 more coats of color. and let it sit for 1 or 2 days.
    *wet sant with 2000 grit.
*4 coats of clear spray paint. and let rest over night.
    *wet sand with 1200 grit
    *2 more coats of clear
*now after 24 hours I will wet sand with 2000 grit and start polishing with turtle wax or what I can find...
I hope this will do the trick :)

now here's a pic of the first 4 layers of primer:

All those painting and sanding stages sound like a ****load to me :D
That in the sense of being a lot of stages, I would never have thought of doing that much.
