You could always go for a jacob's ladder out of the top.

    link

Though it might be a little dangerous.

i hope you will put one of those crazy plasma ball things that go weird when you touch them into that sphere as that would look fly, i think it would also match you kinda theme aswell!

lol ive got a wicker linen basket wonder if i could mod a pc into that? :D

That ball is perfect for a synthetic brain (maybe made of clear silicone) with some bright leds flashing with HDD/CD activity..... It could be suspended in greenish liquid with some bubbles coming out from the base...

    [black&white mode]
    Dr. Frankestein: "Igor..."
    Igor: "Yes Doctor!"
Dr. Frankestein: "Give me the brain you've stolen...."

This is a fine project but i think at the moment the hoses dont look right. I personally would either remove them for a cleaner look or add more to go with the mad sci-fi theme, but then its your project.

Good work though and i cant wait to see it finnished. :thumb:

I got one of these plasma balls but it's bad with static electricity

    we got a Winner !!
exact: a plastic brain (from halloween stuff store)
(inspiration from all the sci-fi books I read with this concept and Futurama)
at this point, I'm not sure about bubbles because the aquarium stuff I tried is too noisy.. I've also think about a vibrator like cellphone for hdd or cpu activity

I took the sphere from this exterior lamp
    [IMG]

chromed parts from a lamp seen few pics ago.. the left part will be the support for the sphere
    [IMG]

I started to cut the sphere's support part
here's a pic to give an idea:

and now the B.P.U. (biological process unit)

small motor I will maybe use to vibrate the brain
and two protections for buttons power and reset (the button in the middle of the case will be for opening dvd finally)

Swwweett....I thought this project was great before (as you and I share a similar "tube" design and that of course makes us cool) but now I think its awesome...

You know you have to fill the bulb w/ a viscous fluid also..kinda like specimen jars..although I wouldn't suggest formaldehyde... :D

You may try cooking oil.....it has the right color...its viscosity is pretty good..and its non conductive (that way if it does happen to leak...it shouldn't damage much if anything..)

(I'm not 100% on the above statment on conductivity...you may do some research to make sure I'm correct)

Looking great again! Update asap so we can see you..."brain" child...ha... :duh:

thx a lot, I love your mod too, I'm eager to see how good it will look like with the pinup painted on it :)

very good idea.. I saw a motherboard totally immersed in cooking oil so u'r right it's non-conductive.. I will do few tests with the brain to see what's better..

I brought out the brain from the congelator for frankenstein's experiences...

I didn't find green cooking oil, only yellowish... so syrup mint + water.. nice green but maybe too dark...
I'm thinking about uv liquid too... If I choose uv liquid, I will add uv leds in the bottom of the sphere
    [IMG]
the brain floats well, I will have to add a metal guide
    [IMG]

new galvanometers, maybe a clock and a thermometer or for others hdd...

when disassembling the galvanometers, I said to myslef that it could make nice mini-windows. So I take 'same-style' galvanometers a little bigger (last one from my local electronic shop) and will use it as a mini-window, in the center of the case. to look at the cold cathode or some crystals to look like green kryptonite)

on the left a thermometer I will try to use, on the right the button I will use on a rheo for tuning the backlight of the lcd display
