Sorry, guys. I forgot a cooler I built in the update last night. I edited the post and added it. Check it out if you're so inclined. Thanks!

New cooler looks fantastic. Much better than a Dominator one.

Thanks, Cheapskate. I'm hoping to get the rig up really soon. I've been in hyper-build mode the past couple of days.

Hehe, I just ruined my a good night's sleep just to read this log. And it was well worth it.. Kudos to you E.E.L. But should you not show off that sexy mobo instead of hiding it? After all it's black.

:hehe: I don't want to be the reason for lost sleep, but if you enjoyed the read so far I suppose I can take that as a compliment!

Oh, you can still see the mobo; that's not a problem at all. I'm merely complementing the mobo more than covering it up. ;)

    Thanks, man!

    Oct. 19th Small Update!

Very small update. I'll get right to it. It's been a long weird week and weekend too, so I don't really have anything comical this time around, lol.

I worked on wiring inside the case, as well as testing some of the peripherals inside it. Here's a small and boring vid clip of the slotload drive working. Everything seems fine!

I am also adding some...minor...stuff to the rig. ;)

Man, what a fiasco getting the stock cooling off! Oh well. Guess that's a compliment to the manufacturer. Man, I hope I didn't bork the card either... :worried:

Time to clean off those ram modules!

There we go. I'm such a sucker for nickel-plated goodness. Thanks to Hank @ Performance-PCs for helping me out with a slightly-customized package of a nickel-plated GTX280 block with an acetal top. Note to Eddy: Offer this stock! :D

I'll probably have more during the week, but who knows. I have a feeling it's going to be rather brutal to ole' E.E.L. :sigh:

Until the next update, I got nuthin'. :thumb:

    Hahahaha!

    Thanks!

Yeah, I can admit I'm a bit 'green' with video cards, if others haven't noticed already. Frankly, I looked into a 4870x2, but the main issues I have with it are the fact that it is 2 GPU's on one PCB; I'd rather have one GPU for easier compatibility. Possible issues such as microstutter, etc. tends to creep up with things like that card. I see they're still having some issues with drivers with it, which sucks. Kudos to ATI for putting out such a beast, definitely, but I really wanted something that tends to run consistent framerate-wise. I don't care about peak versus average versus low rates. I want a decent constant framerate, and the GTX280 seems to provide that more so then the other in games. At least, that's my observations on it. I don't want to see you 'reds' coming in here and saying, "blah! my 4870x2 beats your stupid little nvidia card!" :hehe: The other issue with the 4870x2 is the heat. And boy does it cook. I don't even want to think about watercooling that thing, let alone the size. And I was looking at Hank's the other day while he was fitting it with a waterblock....it's a bloody aircraft carrier!

Again beautiful work on that slot loader!
A few pages back you showed us a tray loader, I'm sorry if I missed something here but
I'd like to see how you installed that (the slot loader).

    Thank you!

The tray loader was from the previous rig. The slotload is a laptop burner fit into a conversion bracket for one of the 5.25 bays, and the acrylic was designed and cut to fit right where the slot is up front in order to stealth the whole drive. It's in the log...somewhere :worried:....a few pages back.

Thanks, mate! Yes, the nickel is quite awesome.
