In this project I will be putting together a kick *@# SLI rig for everyday use and some heavy-duty gaming. The goal is to build a fast and silent liquid cooled system. I am going to use the following components:

    Case: Lian Li V200B Plus

Internal Parts: Asus A8N-SLI Premium, CPU: X2 4800+, Dual eVGA 6800 Ultra’s, 2GB's of Crucial Ballistix, 2 WD 74 gig raptors and a 160 gig Hitachi for storage, 16X DVD burner and a good ol’ floppy Sony floppy drive. Using a PCP&C Turbo Cool 510 SLI to power this rig.

Watercooling components: Thermochill 120.3 w/ 38mm Panaflo fans, AquaComputer TwinPlex v1.2 and Cuplex XT Pro blocks (did I mention they were made of .925 Sterling Silver?), Dual AquaGraFx 6800 Rev 2 GPU blocks. I am also going to use the Aquero 3.07 VFD and Aquastream to move the water around the system.

I originally started this project almost a year ago on the OCZ forums. Since then most everything has changed (again. :duh: )

I will also be modding the PSU for silent running and dual fans.

    Stay tuned folks… :D

Let's start by voiding the PSU warranty.

PCP&C make an awesome PSU it’s just too loud for me. I wanted to quite the PSU to acceptable levels given the fact that I have a home office and the stock fan was approximately 44db’s. The stock fan moves up to 52 CFM and is there for a reason. I know I couldn’t just remove it and expect everything to work as expected. I decided to go with two fans instead of one.

    I used two SanyoDenki fans. A 80mm 30CFM/23db fan and a 80x15mm 20CFM/21 db fan.

I simply used one of the probes from the Aquero to measure the temps coming from the PSU exhaust before and after the mod at full load. Unfortunately I do not have the equipment to measure the airflow and dbA before and after.

    My results:

    Before –
    Ambient Air – 22.1
    Exaust Temp – 26.8

    After –
    Ambient Air – 22.0
    Exaust Temp – 29.3

The temp delta is only 9.3% BUT, the PSU is now a LOT quieter. :D

The mod was very simple. I just removed the cover and used a 80mm hole saw to cut the hole.

Nice components list....but I thought you said you were going for a silent pc???

The PC P&C is notoriously noisey and you added ANOTHER FAN :eeek:

    Well Anyway good luck :thumb:

That was fast!!! I have plenty of pics. Going to post the good stuff later this evening. I think you will like the window mod.

The noisy Delta fan is gone. Replaced with two Q-U-I-T-E fans. Now it is quieter than my Antec True 480.

    Cuts and more cuts...

The external rad is going to sit directly on top of the case. The notch you see below will allow me to run the three fan wires into the case. The notch will not be seen once the rad cover is intalled.

Taking a page from ModSquad's book of tricks

Thinking about cable management I had to make this cut. I hope to route main power connector, SATA cables, USB, Firewire and the two 6-pin video connectors in this area.

    Lion Window Mod

I saw the fan grill below and decided that is what I wanted in a side window. I edited the image using MS Paint to make it round. I also changed things a bit so that the lion was looking up.

The cut was made by Custom Water Cuts using their "Water Jet" technology. The process was fairly painless as all you need to do is measure the area to be cut and send in an image. Chris converted the image to pdf format with the dimensions of the area to be cut.

Here is the finished product back from CWC.

I orginally mounted a clear window to the panel using double stick tape. I didn't like the clear window and wasn't happy with the way it looked taped.

So...I measured and preped the window for the new UV Green acrylic.

Holes drilled and ready to go.

I attached the window using 6 3x8mm metric hex bolts. The cap nuts gave it a nice finish.

Here are a couple of shots of the finished product.

Thanks! :D The water jet cut wasn't bad. It was $55 for the cut and another $15 for expedited shipping. I sure it would be less for normal ground shipping.
