I'm on the fence at the moment, who'd have though you need controller that look like Bongos?? not me 12 months ago, but Donkey konga is probably the most played game in my house all year. I think it will follow in a great nintendo tradition of having a handful of supurb games that you just don't get on any other system, and be a bit poor for everything else.

I'd be supprised if there was some kind of back catalouge or backwards compatibility and it didn't provide support for GC controllers (or at least someone will make an adaptor that will let you use your old GC/N64/Snes controller)

This is a very exciting development for gaming and I think it places Nintendo exactly where they are happy to be. That is people will likely decide on going for either a PS3 or 360 but in addition grab a cheaper Revolution console for something a little different. Bearing in mind that the hardware is not going to be quite so revolutionary I've little doubt that Nintendo plan to make profit on each console sold and subsequent games. It's where they like to be positioned.

Having said that the Revolution will be dependant on games more than any other console before it. Simple 3 console ports of racing titles will not suffice as people will be looking for something a unique from the Revolution experience.

As for Nintendo innovating and others follwing I can already see a PS gamepad which has gyros for accelerating and decelerating simply by tilting the controller forward and backwards, imagine the level control that would give you on racing games.

Needless to say, unlike the previous gen which I saw as more of the same this gen is finally giving a bit of what has been promised by all three competitors.

wow, that video is making me even more moist about this thing.
the revolution is now above the ps3 for me.
    360 first then a revolution i think

It makes more sense once you read the ign articles and watch the teaser video.

I may be wrong here, but I think this might be a very geodemographic orientated move (look it up if you don't know what that means!) I have a feeling that they've seen what Sony and Microsoft have come up with, and decided that if they try to compete in their game, then they're not going to survive. After all, Sony and Microsoft are hardware experts, wheras Nintendo has always been about games first and foremost.

So what do they do? Change the rules. As someone mentioned before, they'll lap this up in Japan, because they've always typically liked the weird and wonderful there. By releasing something like this, they offer something tangibly different from the competition. By admitting that they can't really compete directly with the big boys, and changing tact, they may just have saved their bacon. Only time will tell!

Without Nintendo, there wouldn't be a flood of craptacular mario titles every month....

Only a matter of time before Nintendo quits the console industry....

I think many are underestimating Nintendos game plan. They are not trying to compete for the direct PS3/Xbox market and are happy in their little niche role. The make profit on their consoles and as a result do not need to sell bucket loads of games to makes back a loss.

Nintendo never had bacon to save in the first place, they have simply secured their position in the existing marketplace. I have to say the endless Mario games are somewhat tedious but they occasionally pull something out of the hat such as 64. I suppose when the games are actually chageing gameplay wise having the same main character doesn't really distract from it.

The complaint with the endless zombie shooters is not that they are zombie shooters but rather they all play the same and seem like each other with updates adding little. In fact, this controller will give nintendo something new to play with and a new batch of Mario and Zelda will be well recieved I'm sure.

Hats off to innovation and boo hiss to the cynics! Have you seen the Xbox 360 controller? Laaaaame. In fact, while we're on the subject, don't you think the Revolution looks by far the best out of the three?

i dont quite know where youre coming from on this point to be honest.
ill give you the microsoft point, but sony being hardware experts compared with nintendo? come off it, sony pinched nintendos design for the ps/ps2 pads a long time ago. and the fact that nintendoare trying to push the hardware side of things no too and they did it before with the n64 doesnt seem to make you think that theyre experts?

i hope nintendo get better surporting this time around from game makers, as that was the only flaw of the gamecube really, they just dropped the console. maybe then all the non believers will eat their hats.

the console market owes alot to nintendo for their innovations.

The first thing that struck me was they had designed it to look like a remote control and then thought about functionlity after.
Going for the whole livingroom look, in other words it won't look out of place sitting next to your TV.

Will have to wait and find out how it performs when released.

I'm a huge Nintendo fan and the first thing I thought when I saw it was that they are nuts but the more I read about it the more I'm thinking it sounds like an awesome idea. It does all the stuff the other controllers do; you don’t have to worry about the cramps in your hand from holding a bulky controller and no more numb fingers or 1000's of buttons to memorize. Also you have the fact that it is supposed to cost less than $200 US makes it awesome for parents and normal people who don’t have $BIG$ to spend on M$ and PS3. I think it will do better than everyone thinks, besides haven’t you ever paid attention to someone playing video games? They always twist and jerk the controller around like it will help the character on the screen do more, well now it will.

personally i think its quite sweet. i like the new ideas nintendo rolls out, and before i buy any console this time around, im going to go to the store and play each one for a long time and see what titles are comming out for them. i dont plan on buying two, but i definatly plan on buying one.

it just seems that this could be an awesome way to have fun with mutiple people. imagine playing somthing like super smash brothers, but everyone is standing up and waving their controllers around like swords. it just sounds like an active way to have alot of fun, and there are TONS of applications.

dont forget people there WILL be a third party developer of a plug in normal controller. its virtually guaranteed

so if you dont like the controller, who says you have to use it :)

Well you can use you Gamecube controller directly in the Revolution so a more traditional gaming device is readily available for the naysayers. That is unless they particularly dislike the Gamecube controller.

the one thing that is really impressing me at the moment is the positive feedback of most of you guys ! Im really happy to see that.

I am not sure how the product will be and how it will sell because I believe this controller looks really silly and i probably wont be the only one to believe that....

It's cool that they come up with new ideas and all , but a lot of people are affraid of the new big ideas that are totaly different with what they're used to

I hope the marketing will be good just to make sure that everyone will get use to this idea as fast as possible
