i finished the frame earlier this afternoon. My camera died and i can't find the charger. I guess il have to use my moms canon rebel xt digital slr camera, ill be postin pics soon. I also am about 1/3 of the way through putting up the supports up front for hanging the cd rom cages too, i don't want to buy 1/8 inch aluminum panels (i bough .8 panels, they are like 23 bucsk for a 24x24, i got 2 of them, so can't imgine anythign more $$$$ lol) SO you will see. Just give me like 10 minutes to post the pics, k?

    alrighty!

let me show you guys what i have done since my camera died... lol!
I have some pictures on 1 camera and the other pictures on another, so i will be posting replies, with pics. Kind of in reverse order.
more or less, here is where i stand for today:

    Shot at 2007-06-29

WHat you see up front is 2 bars, that will hold the cd roms.

For shits and giggles, ill show you the frame withOUT what i have been doing for the past 2 hours or so:
    Shot at 2007-06-29
Note that i am further along then that

But for the bars up front, i had to precision cut many, many holes.... ANd i also had to cut it to exact length, using a jig saw: [IMG]
    Shot at 2007-06-29
and my handy dandy bench/vice that is the only surface i have that is suitable for a jig saw.

    Shot at 2007-06-29

I don't know if you can see it, but look at the holes i had to drill with the drill press. Took me like 30 minutes to measure it out, yikes'

So if there is anything valuable on the other camera, then ill post it.

    Comments/suggestions welcome as always

I know i have been bad about showing you the sketchups.... sorry :(

So nothing fancy, just here is how im planning on supporting the motherboard:
    Shot at 2007-06-29

Obviously poorly made in sketchup and problably hard to explain, but it will work, trust me(or if you see any flaw tell me!)

And here it is on the other side:
    Shot at 2007-06-29
here is a possiblity for the front panel,
    [IMG]
    Shot at 2007-06-29
BUt with the fan holes: the things around them, won't be visible. I just will cut them out for a swiftech mcr-220 radiator, if i ever go that route.
Please give me suggestions here Pretty soon ill get my phase change with a 1hp rotary compressor :dremel: yay, load temps im hoping for -50celcius!

anyways, here is the right panel:

    So advice on sketchup please!

o and another thing, the triangle things aroudn the RTX will be mesh, and the fan grills will be mesh, unless anybody objects?

o and one more pic, already posted but just to see the psu support:

thanks man. Yo tale gunner: what cad program do you use? im stuck between sketchup pro and solidworks, keep money in mind.

I played a round of golf at a nice country club today, and it was 100f in the shade... im to tired(and since im in L.A. lots of smog, my lungs hurt horribly) to work on it right now... sometime tonight i wan't to finish the mounting device for the cd roms. I made wrong dimensions on it(forgot the width of the aluminum bar and it sticks into where the dvd roms and such actually go) so need to undo some rivits and trim it up.

i forgot to order the feet and the handle for the top, anybody know of some cool handles and feet for a case?

I use Smartsketch. Its easy to use. But it does not do 3D (the only drawback in my book).

kinda working backwards here lol. But thats how its going to be mounted.

so my measurements were off at first, so i re- marked them:
Shot with COOLPIX P4 at 2007-06-30
    then i drilled the holes:

alright! its 107f and even hotter in the garage, so no frame work today. Instead i did the RTX that will be on the front of the case, as you can see in the cad pictures. Only its better in real life

So i started by cutting a piece of aluminum and a peice of plexi to around the same size
    [IMG]
Shot with COOLPIX P4 at 2007-07-01
    and layed them out
then i gorilla glued the plexi
    [IMG]
Shot with COOLPIX P4 at 2007-07-01

Shot with COOLPIX P4 at 2007-07-01
    clamped them together

After cleaning it and makign sure it was strogn enough, i then took it to the scroll saw and did some free-hand cutting
    [IMG]
Shot with COOLPIX P4 at 2007-07-01
not bad for no drawing, eh?
Shot with COOLPIX P4 at 2007-07-01
    i like it!
    heres a texture shot
    [IMG]
Shot with COOLPIX P4 at 2007-07-01
    jsut to see the plexi

Then i filed it to shape, and wet sanded with 400 in one direction(wet), then 800 in a different dirrection, then 1000 in another direction, the 1500 and 2000 all in different directions and wet sanded. Then i buffed it with like 4 different sized buffing wheels on the dremel

Then i used brasso to clean it up.

    heres the reflection:
Shot with COOLPIX P4 at 2007-07-01
sorry about blurry pic, its even better in person
    [IMG]
Shot with COOLPIX P4 at 2007-07-01
and another random shot, this doesn't capture the mirror finish, this really looks like chrome not aluminum lol, the camera isn't focused on the RTX thats why, my cameras focus has been retarted lately sorry :(
But yeah! im happy with that, it really has a amazing finish!
