I agree with you over Painkiller, it sucked from beginning to end. Almost all of the game involved standing still and waiting for wave upon wave of awful enemies to run towards you so you can shoot them.

Oh yes, I almost forgot to add... great column, as usual! Keep up the good work.

Meh, I might as well get it...Game has already charged me for my pre-ordered copy ;).

Also, Painkiller got better as you got further on. Some of the fights became insane...and Trauma...AARRRGGH...no standing and waiting there, at all. No Souls, either :p

I say that it's a great show (if you are watching or playing) but the gameplay hasn't changed from doom1/doom2. I admit, i downloaded it (didn't take me 3 days though, 350k/sec ;) ) and as soon as i got it i started to brag to all my friends how scary it was. I played for about 30 minutes, was scared out of my pants, and just haven't played since. I'd rather play an online game to where i can make fun of people after i kill them. Single player just don't cut it anymore.

as for the effects in the game, they are excellent. The best i've ever seen. The shadowing/dynamic lighting sets the atmopshere, then the sounds all around you and coming over the radio as the other marines are calling for help... it puts it all together.

so overall, is it worth paying for? yes, if you have the computer to run it and are not interested in single player, and if you have other people to be around you when you play (its fun to hear other people scream.) Other than that, i myself wouldn't buy it, because i live and die (and respawn) by multiplayer.

who uses BT for large files? well not me... its all about IRC with large files..

no need to share, i hate sharing but if u use IRC no need to share, just wait in line for about 1 HR or less and get super fast speed download, its also pausable and resumable, just trust me... IRC never shares fake renamed files

i never downloaded one since i switched to BT

[EDIT BY GOO] - Another person who can't read. :blah:

but i cant believe u guys dont have HALF-LIFE2 BETA LEAK!!! WTF!

Nice article and a familier ending for people who've been doing the filesharing thing a while, and so true what else is my broadband connection for?:D

BT and IRC you get teh same speeds, just that on BT u dont get to leech, its about sharing not grabbing what you want and buggering off (thats what makes kazaa suck apart from the obvious, virus's, fake files, copyright police and if the music industry is to be beleived some particulary nasty porn)

Broadbands good for that but there are the gems of programs that you just what to buy because it just a great program ex CS. got doom 3 looks great i just hope HL2 will have just as much eyecandy and fun as D3 and cs:source will be just as good as cs. And Photoshop is way to expensive

And he's right, since you live in Ontario, Canada and we have your IP address logged... ;) Now your post is quoted and you cant even edit it :D

    /evil

It truely amazes me that you people who are complaining about it being repetative expect it to be anything else? Only so you can go: Im not paying for this ****.
With the next engine he's developing a usb groinal attachment so even if you dont enjoy the gameplay youll still be happy. :p

Answer me this: If they had released a demo of it (like farcry) would you still have downloaded it? If they had released it around the world at the same time would you have still downloaded it?

Humm I d/l it, didnt relly have a choice because i couldent go out to the shops and by the damn thing anyway! Thats problem number 1 aint it?

Played about half the game so far, great game but way to repetitive for me. They have got most things right but the story line just sucks and theres nothing there giving me an insentive to play anymore. Its definatly NOT worth £40 (thats problem 2)

So now ive d/l the game cous i could not buy it, ive played it and got everything out of it that im gonna get so the way i see it theres no point in me buying it! expecialy for £40.

    Sue me :cooldude:

So don't buy it for that much, you can get it from play.com for just £27.99!

Nope, because I would have the box sitting in front of me instead of playing a downloaded version now and waiting for the box to arrive on Friday!

Ok sorry I got to flame

Ok so you guys hate Doom 3, do you say that just to be the devils advocate. God people like you that stay stupid **** like that just to get everyone else riled up.

Ok you hated the game but don’t say it sucks. I myself find it very fun, and you know what painkiller also rocked. Now I know these are just shoot them up games but hey sometimes that’s just what I want to play. HL2 looks like the same old crap I can’t believe you guys are all drooling all over it even a year after it was supposed to be released. Yeah I’m sure it will be a fun game but just because you like HL2 doesn’t mean you have to hate Doom3 I mean nobody is going to question your HL2 fanboyness if you like Doon3.

EDIT: Not worth 40 bux? umm 20 something people slaved over this game for 4 YEARS! I can't believe some people.

    who said it sucked?
its not an awful game, but its not a great game either
its a mediocre game build on an awesome engine that is going to spawn some truly great games
i personally love FPS/shoot-em-ups however i do like them to be somewhat varied.
take farcry for example, there was a variety of indoor/outdoor walking/driving/flying/boating
doom3 is almost exactly the same thing just repeated over and over again, i enjoyed it for the first hour or two, but then i just started to get bored and went to play Joint Operations which is butt ugly in comparison but far more fun imo

HL2 im hoping wont be like doom3, im hoping it will have an excellent storyline and be a lot of fun to play. hopefully it wont just be an advert for the engine like doom3 is

    £40, not $40
    £40 = $73, still think its cheap?

i payed 70 CND which is alittle steep but hey I understand why. I can also see why you brits are downloading it, if i had to wait another 2 weeks i would have downloaded it too. But I still would have paid for it when it came out.

I haven't gotten the chance to play it yet (waiting for damn UPS to show up with my 6800 today). But I HATE repetive games. Remember those old NES games? Like streets of rage, and double dragon? Contra? Ringing a bell now? That was the same crap over and over, only the enemies got faster and faster (duckhunt). And it was pretty much a torture to play after about oh.... 2-3 hours.

But I totally agree on the farcry comparison... MUCH more dynamic then any game I have ever played peroid. And the graphics aren't nothing to ignore either.

the way I see it, it's perfectly fine to download the game in order to see what its like and how it run's. As in we all know that Doom 3 is/is going to be a very demanding game and as there is no demo I’m aware of and the tech spec's aren't really much to go on these day's. I see no problem in adoption a try before you buy method.

I mean the game isn't out in the UK yet but in theory I could of downloaded it last week and tried the game out, found it run's ok and then go a get the game Friday when it hits the selves, now what's wrong with that?

In my opinion game makers should go back to releasing demo's before the full game release date, this way we can see if the game is worth buying and how it run's, so that we don't waste our money or have to argue with the spotty kid that works in game in order to get our money back.
