I've been trying to find some info on this one but no luck, I gave them a call but didn't get far http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...graphicscards/nvidiagtx970series/nov-970.html
Looks like the MSI GTX 970 4GD5 OC. Going by the PCB shot on EKWB, it's a 980 PCB with some phases removed, and using the same heatsink and radial fan, but with a mostly plastic shroud (plastic outer, metal midplate)) rather than the all-metal one of the all-up NVTTM.
thats what i was thinking as the clock speeds matched but the sales department said no but to be honest i dont think she knew what i was talking about
£320 each? Cannot see why anyone would pay an extra £70 per card for that cooler. Madness if you ask me.
I really rate it as a cooler - it's very good in my experience. The bigger boon is the 980 reference PCB too, no?
They are, dare I say it, better than the old HIS blowers you used to get on high end Radeons... I love mine
I have the Titan cooler on my 780 and it is hands down worth the money to have. I'll probably be going dual 980s when I upgrade, but definitely with that cooler.
I agree there not cheap but I felt they were worth it the quality is top notch, no coil whine and the fan are whisper quiet
Option for small form-factor builds: £320 for the ideal card (best available blower, 980 PCB) £260 for a card with a **** blower (rebadged OEM 760 blowers that were crap then too) on reused 760/770 PCBs £420 for a reference 980 I see it as saving £100 for a minor performance drop. The extra £60 from a budget card could barely be spent on trying to find an aftermarket blower and mod it to fit (no aftermarket blowers made in the last 5 years as far as I can tell), buying a closed-loop cooler and trying to fit it in, or going full-coverage WC for much more than £60.
It's nigh on perfect as far as I'm concerned. I have afterburner running and I had to tweak the fan profile to get the fans to shut down completely though.
Mine has boosted to 1516, so not sure what advantage I would see in paying all that extra for the 980 PCB TBH
So what's the deal then, what's the difference to me getting a cheap 970 or say an Asus strix 970? Do they all have the fan functions? Is it going to just be a few degrees in temp?
Just submitted an RMA request on my card. I'd hoped to avoid it but the problem with the fan has persisted and it started emitting some coil whine earlier too. I'd hoped to be playing some Far Cry 4 this week but it looks like that'll be postponed now. Thankfully I've still got my old card to fall back on so I won't be without a PC.
The only issue I've been having is that sometimes when alt tabbing out of a game, the card goes into power saving mode (so limiting clock speed to 405mhz), but won't ramp up again when I alt tab back in. Anyway, this seems to have been fixed with the latest driver update, but it sure was annoying.
Has anyone got two running side by side without gaps in sli? With the power and thermals I wonder how hot they run in close quarters
hi i have 2 msi versions in sli with 1 pcix 1x slot between them im folding on mine 24/7 1 card is @51c and the other is @62c
That is really impressive. The days of writing off sli setups because of heat are over, for now at least...
I get paid Wednesday and was going to buy my 970 that day (evga Cheesecake specifically) so I'd have it before the weekend and I could have a good play with it and get my loop plumbed in. But with black Friday just 2 days later I don't know whether to wait and see if anywhere has a deal on it. It's only stocked on 3 sites; scan, overclockers and novatech, so the chances of getting that card at a reduced price are fairly slim and I don't know if I have the patience to wait any longer. Aaargh!
