It's fun, but the acting blows to a point where it's seriously hard to overlook.

 

Agreed on the acting. When the bloke who used to be in Eastenders turned up (and his poor acting in that even stood out) I knew it wasn't going to get any better.

Not my sort of film. Just one robot vs monster battle after another for over 2 hours.

 

The one that REALLY stood out to me as "Holy crap that's bad acting" was Idris Elba.

That said - they all sucked in that regard. And why they had to bring Charlie "I scream hysterically and made sunny in philly unbearable" Day into it is a riddle to me.

That said - the mechs make up for it...

Just switch off your brain & don't read Neil DeGrasse Tyson's tweets regarding the innacuracies.

 

They're not exactly story-breaking though, despite their presence.

 

I already did the day he posted them. Spoiler *****. It's a movie not a whitepaper on outer-space. Will he do the feasibility of Pacific Rim next?

 

A miniseries, anyway......

Hatfields and McCoys - Gritty and well acted, based on real life events, violent family feud drama (starting during the American Civil War, and ending well into the 20th century). Starring Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton as the heads of the families. Highly recommended.

 

Django Unchained

Loved it. Great story with some tarrentino flair.

The Way Way Back - 10/10

Amazing film. Sam Rockwell was awesome. Did not want it to end.
Film of the year for me.

 

When he did the bit saying "don't ever touch me" I knew it was bad!

I loved the movie though! Giant robots vs monsters, whats not to like! For me it's an easy no thinking film, something I'll have on in background.

What I liked (for cheese) was the Easternders (and Trueblood) guy, but the main actor was in Queer As Folk UK, alot of UK actors in the film

 

Now on my list!

 

The Car - 1977 horror flick about an evil apparently driverless automobile that terrorises a community by running over hitchhikers, knocking people off bikes etc. etc., until the local sheriff decides to try and do something about it. I hadn't seen this one for several decades, and even though it is quite ridiculous, I really enjoyed it. Recommended!

 

That's the car Maggie Simpson drives in the Guillermo Del Toro directed intro to this year's Treehouse of Horror.

 

The did homage to The Car in one of the Futurama episodes, can't rember the name of it though.

I always thought The Car was pretty good for a TV Movie, another classic with a similar theme was Killdozer which I haven't seen in years and was never able to find on DVD. Must make a point of having another hunt for it on R2/R Free DVD.

There was also a Stephen King book where machines came to life and attacked humans which became a TV mini series, I seem to recall an AC/DC song was part of the soundtrack as well.

 

Maximum Overdrive was the Stephen King story/film and I can find a R1 copy of Killdozer on Amazon for £89...

 

On a similar theme, don't forget Christene. Written by Stephen King, directed by John Carpenter. Awesome film (and book too).

 

Blue Jasmine - 8/10

I thought it was a very good film
Cate Blanchett was exceptional

 

Man of Steel 6.5/10

visually impressive, nice soundtrack too but the film; I felt nothing at the end.

 

Elysium... not bad at all 7/10

 

Hangover 3 - 6-7/10

Nowhere near as funny as previous films - it's not even a Hangover now - but still quite entertaining. I normally hate this kind of movie but for some reason I have a soft-spot and it makes me laugh.
