I'd never thought about it really. Just like the runic alphabet is called futhorc, after the first several letters of it's alphabet, the alphabet is called "alphabet" after the first two letters of the Greek alphabet. All these years and it hadn't even hit me it's alpha beta. Then again I'd never read mange tout as 'man get out' either.
Neither had I, especially as it means, 'eat it all'. EDIT: I was a bit slow earlier, even so, have never even noticed it could be read as 'man get out'...
While my GoXLR mixer has been sat on the shelf for almost a year, waiting for me to complete a streaming room, it's gained Linux drivers and software.
It did that while sitting on a shelf ???? Get it plugged in it might be able to make Windows work properly for everyone !
Doing my first ever keycap change, TIL spacebar stabilisers are bastards. EDIT: Found @Margo Baggins advice, job done.
Today, I learned you're twice as likely to die in a fire if you're driving a Tesla than if you're driving a Ford Pinto - the car that famously exploded. Or, rather, I verified something I'd read on Reddit a few weeks ago, meant to look into, and forgot until today. So, the Pinto. Per Wikipedia, "over three million Pintos were produced over its ten-year production run." The Reiff Law Firm states that an official total of 27 deaths were tied to the vehicle. So, 27 deaths, three million vehicles - and Ford recalled 1.5 million of 'em and ceased production. Tesla. The company's press portal doesn't include running totals, only annual figures, and I'm already wasting too much time on this. Money Transfers Dot Com says that as of Q1 2022 "there are over 2,645,000 Teslas on the road worldwide" and that the company was targeting four million by year's end. Tesla does have a release for 2022, and it says it shipped 1.31 million in 2022 total. Divide by four (unfair if they're ramping production, but again I'm back-of-the-enveloping it here) and add three of those quarters to the original figure, and we get 3.6 million Teslas - "over three million," close enough to Ford's Pinto shipments. Now, Tesla fire deaths. There's literally a website for this, although it tracks "all Tesla fires" including home battery things. 182 "confirmed cases," of which 53 were deaths involving a Tesla car fire. 53 deaths in a Tesla fire. 27 in a Pinto fire. Roughly equal numbers shipped, though the Ford deaths were spread over a full decade. Thus, yes, you're twice as likely to die in a fire if you're driving a Tesla than if you're driving a Ford Pinto. Huh.
To be fair I'd rather be seen dead in a Tesla than a Pinto. Even if that is a fiery flaming deaathball.
TIL - The drummer of the "Declan Swans" band from "Welcome to Wrexham" used to be the electrician who had the contract for work at my office.
I now know how to implement G-Sync and V-Sync correctly using frame limits and have gotten rid of the annoying tearing that I knew for sure should not be happening, given that's G-Sync's entire raison d'etre. Life should come with instructions for people like me.
TIL - It's Dan Ackroyd's birthday, and he's here in the UK, filming "Ghostbusters: Firehouse" AKA Ghostbusters 5!

Lian Li are about to launch reverse-blade versions of their Unifan Infinity series in both black & white (only 120mm though). But they're £25 a pop!
Yes, it's so you don't see the motor mount on bottom intake fans, etc. https://lian-li.com/product/uni-fan-sl-infinity-reverse-blade/
