I'm just glad a crap shooter like CoD didn't win. I'm getting really sick of the same thing every year from those guys. Granted it's good, just worn out. *I should note that I haven't purchased any of them since Modern Warfare.
Yep, it's just a matter of understanding what you're actually getting. It's still interesting to see the results, even if it somewhat of a popularity contest. Afterall, a game isn't all around successful if it didn't make itself known and get players to buy it. What would be interesting to see is a companion poll of which games people owned/played. Then you could compare number of GOTY votes to number of people who owned/played it. Then you see games like Diablo 3 which had massive sales and low GOTY votes, or games like Sleeping Dogs which currently has less votes but was probably played by far less people so it likely left a stronger impact on players.
**** I would have voted for FTL and XCOM. I actually screamed at the screen when I got to GOTY and it wasn't FTL. I raised an eyebrow at Black Mesa, and then the other at Borderlands 2 (was it really that good? maybe I'll have to play it..) - but the Witcher 2? No - it had it's year and it wasn't this one. But I agree that this was an excellent year for gaming in general, and a pretty good year for the PC. The hideously forgettable and boring event that was D3 dragged the PC down a bit.
I need to get on my Pc a bit more as I'm still doing skyrim, the witcher let's just say I'm quite a bit behind, although my bro is getting me mass effect 3 or witcher 2 for Christmas, might get to play them be this time nextyear
That would actually be a very interesting comparison, and would lend a lot of weight to the scores. I wouldn't officially factor it in (as then less wide spread games become exponentially easier to score higher,. as fans will probably hunt them out specifically) but it would certainly be an interest companion piece.
Just viewed it and I can't help but wonder why the Witcher 2 was included on the list and why there were people dense enough to vote for it. Just to be clear, I love the game but this is NOT 2011.
yeah, the winner is the game that is not only awesome, but tailored for the PC as well. Massive expectations for CDP-s next game of course
