   While a lot of what Linux From Scratch and Beyond LFS cover is way too much for your purposes, they're good sources of information on some of the reasons why stuff is and does in the inner workings of Linux.
   
   LFS and the ArchWiki are two of the best places for detailed info about any Linux system.
