Alternatively, you can make your own 'acrylic' bits. Just dremel the cutting edge on the end of the regular bit so it's at a 45-degree angle instead of the sharp 90-degree one that's normally there. Wish I had an illustration of it, but it makes total sense when you see it. In essence, when you drill plastic with it, you're shaving layers of it off instead of screwing through it. Did that make any sense? Hello? :hehe:

Excellent looking rig, mate. One of the best I've ever seen.

The Reef keepers drill acrylic a lot.

photo guide for bit modding is here:

    http://www.hawkfish.org/snailman/acrdrill.htm

There are also commercial bits available and really not that expensive.

I agree with E.E.L. this IS one of the best evar!

Haha, thanks Fisher. :) You have to multiply that by about fifty to get the amount
    I've generated from this. :hehe:

    Thanks stoned. :)

    Thank you:)

    Cool, thanks cheaps. :thumb:

Thanks clocker, I'll head down to our version of home depot and see if they have some. :thumb:

Haha I don't know about that, but they do get sore after a couple of hours.

Thanks mate, between your description and that of cheaps and clocker and, the link
John posted I've got a good idea of what's going on. :thumb:

    Thanks John. :thumb:

    Haha, thanks murtoz. :):hehe:

Wow, I don't know what happened there. I tried to reply to some guys post and
    then it vanished. :eeek:

Anyway, drilled the holes for mounting the plates.

    Tapped the threads.

And assembled the part. I was pleasantly surprised that only about three adjustments
need to be made to get the gaps all the same, I thought I'd need to do a lot more work.
However, as I was bolting the plates on an uneasy feeling came over me but I just
brushed it aside and kept working.

I hurried to get the part in so I could see what it will look like, the front plate is not
    installed in this pic.

Now that "uneasy feeling" was getting stronger. It just doesn't look right. Something
is wrong here and it took a long time for me to work out what. I think what it is, is
that there are too many plates. So I'm going to remove every second one and have
a good look at it. Also, the nose is distinctly "on the nose". It is too flat all over and
lacks that "edge" you know, something more aggressive. I just can't leave it this way,
I don't like it at all, it doesn't match the fuzzy image in my head. :hehe:

So I'll go away and look at it some more. :eyebrow:

Reminds me of a fish, but i really like it!
But i do agree with you on one part.
It's too crowded, it looks like there are too many plates.

Maybe space them a bit more, and use the same amount of plates.

I agree, there's something about it that just doesn't work, removing every other fin could fix it. Would you be able to post a pic of the whole case so we get a better look at how the fins fit or don't fit the design as the case may be.

How about raising them slightly so that the curve of each fin matches the curve coming from each side panel?

I really like the overall idea but I too think there are too many plates. For grins and while you eyeball it again try taking out every other plate from the last pic. It would maybe open it up more and show more of the metal. Leave the bottom left one and yank out the one above it, leave the next and yank one. Repeat.

    Just saying mind you.

    It's cool.

I like it although if you had just a thin wood edging to each plate I think it would blend in better??? I dont want to tell you how to suck eggs as I have no modding experience at all, im just thinking out loud.

Indeed. I think it looks fine as is but let's see what removing alternate plates does.

Yea your right, the fins do look a bit out of place, removing every second one would probably fix it. Also, I think the front is just a little bit to sharp, the edges need to be slightly more rounded.

I think they look awkward because of their shape. The shape simply doesn't match up with the rather straight lines there on the rest of the top.

I agree with this. I've looked at the pics a few hours ago, now I'm looking again. All the lines are pretty straight, and now you're going for 'wavy'. It just doesn't fit.

Thanks for all the input guys. :thumb:

I removed every second plate and it makes a huge difference! I'm happy again, here's
something I can work with. I just have to fix the nose. :)
    Lets see what you think.
