    To answer your last question:

The Windows 7 pre-order [according to everything I've read] WILL ship with 2 DVDs, x86 and x64.

good review.. vista users will have to go over to 7 for support one day anyways- I might skip win 7 though, nothing offered (for me) if we get dx11 on vista.. the gadgets aren't hard to write, it's javascript.. I use the quicklaunch but I have a gadget to put all my regular icons on- could do the same in 7 if you want a quicklaunch

I'm kinda the same way- never hit the start button, have everything on either the quicklaunch menu or the gadget bar, or it's already launched in the taskbar using taskmanager to get around the uac prompts.. found ie 8 changes the way the gadgets work a bit- I dunno about win 7.. only ran it a little and then restored my backup, but the 32 bit version of sidebar is alot better at keeping the gadgets in order on load than the 64-bit one (if peeps are having any trouble with that)

performance wise.. no surprise there! It'll probably get better

You remind me of people calling Vista, an XP with a new a new skin and that is all.
Win7 has a lot to offer, use it as your main OS, and you won't use Vista anymore, like you stop using XP over Vista.
At first I have to admit I was like you... but when I actually used Win7 as main OS, now I see all the improvements. It feels good to have everything much faster and responsive over Vista 64bit despite all it's great advantages over XP. I find the cap between Vista (NT6) and Win7(NT 6.1) is bigger than what XP (NT 5.1) was over Windows 2000 (NT5).

yeah good.. I just don't see any benefits to running it at launch- nothing gained at all running win 7 over vista ult 64.. I mean nothing =] I'm sure I'll have to go over when they gimp vista with a service pack though.. faster and much more responsive? I dunno again.. I've run it for years now and even though it was very slow, especially transfer wise early on.. since even before sp1 stuff can't come up any faster- I ran win 7 and after toying with it an hour.. all gotta say is it's vista- I mean the install is exactly the same.. the transfers exactly the same.. gaming- well I don't see where win 7 is any faster or more responsive

maybe all the work I've put into it made it nice.. I have run other people's vista installs and was like wtf! :D

I just went from Vista Business x86 to Windows 7 Build 7600 x64 and it feels so much smoother and snappier. I'm using Build 7600 x86 on my laptop and I've never had a better experience on this old thing, not even with XP.

Yes, I pre-ordered 7. Yes, I like it. Nope, it doesn't make me biased. Vista and 7 aren't that far apart, technically, but 7 just "feels" superior.

Only thing that is bugging me about 7 is the hard drive corruption... but that must be because i am still using an old version of it, going to wait for 7600 to hit msdnaa.

HDD corruption ?!?. I really don't think it's the cause. Bad download, or bad SATA controler, or your HDD is damaged or simply, and most probable, bad install.

And 7600 should be on MSDN, I doubt it'll ever come to MSDNAA. After all it's for students to get cheap MS software, testing [betas and stuff] is TechNet and MSDN.

I'm with Goodbytes - I've not had any HDD corruption with Windows 7. There was the MP3 issue with the first public beta - which Microsoft fixed very quickly. But that's not so much HDD corruption as WMP tagging stuff wrong.

I'm still using 7100 and the only problem I have is minimizing or closing games. Sometimes I get the odd black screen and I have to close the game with the task manager
quite annoying but I am still extremely impressed by this RC version

any game. From warcraft to ut2k4, ut3 (I believe..I only played it once), GTR Evolution and especially Monkey Island Special Edition

It doesn't happen every time though so I don't really mind it

I don't have any of these games... but the following is what I tried:
    - The Witcher
    - Crysis
    - All games in Orange Box
    - FarCry2
    - GTA4

Do you have the latest Nvidia drivers? How about system drivers? Do you use Aero or Aero Basic or Classic?

Ok, so then don't complain about your problems, if yuo are not willing to put any effort in anything. :)
Go do some exercise. Get you Zune/iPod out, bring your laptop, and go walk at a coffee shop wile listening to music, take something there enjoy it, and do a long walk by discovering the neighborhood while coming back home. Or go outside and jog, and go at the gym. Doing physical activity increase memory and concentration and render your body to generate more energy which result in you being no more lazy. It's, of course, no miracle 1 day thing, but you do/should see results the first time (in concentration).

Come on it's a nice day today... it's has a few clouds, ok FINE it's freaking gray... but it's not like it's going to rain anytime soon. :D

I dunno - I've not updated drivers since I installed this build of Win 7 either... given the other problems you've experienced, Ghys... d'you think the ISO could be bad? Did you MD5/SHA1 check it before burning?

nah if the iso was bad the whole thing would keep crashing and it's running great overall

I can definitely recommend the 190.38 WHQL drivers from nVidia. :thumb:

    Find them here:

    x86

    x64
