For me text seems fine on a simple mirror display even more so when you use Spacewalker as it gives you a screen larger than than it can display relying on head tracking but as mentioned didn't use any like that for long and it is very much going to depend on your vision. The adjuster goes to. -5.

Price seems strong but it is a couple of nice screens strapped to your face, £317, direct from Viture, took about 2 weeks and arrive, I was expecting a customs charge but it came through saying it was £78 but covered by Viture so 0 to pay, we'll see if something comes down the road, a paperwork mistake maybe, dunno, potentially 400 which is in line with most places.

I'll see how it goes once out of the new toy honeymoon phase, if I do use them loads and my eyes become an issue I might splash out on xreal with lens inserts.

Not only have I bought a new (to me) camera after endless procrastination, I also have a special accessory for it.

I have gone mirrorless with a Nikon Z6, which is a fantastic full frame camera for what I do.

I have no native lenses for it yet, but do have Leica L39 and Nikon F to Z adaptors for using vintage lenses on it.

Not only that, HE'S GONE AND DONE IT!

Byron 3D printed me a Nikonos (Nikon underwater camera) to Nikon Z adaptor that someone created online, which arrived yesterday.

I can now use my old lenses digitally in a completely new way!

Yeah, that bright blue adapter ring looks totally out of place there… Honestly not sure why I chose such a bright colour for my first roll of PETG. I’ve got some black PETG coming soon, so I can give it another crack in a colour that’s a little more suitable for optics .

Scanner get! And it works! And is clean! And it's SUPER FAST!

A bit weird, too, 'cos it takes the pages from the *back* of the stack first. How long d'you think it'll be before I remember that when I'm loading 'em in?!

I'm really tempted to get a set of these, even if just for watching youtube on my lunch break. I love my little XPS 13 laptop but I do still kinda hunch over and lean in, when these glasses would offer a much bigger screen in a more convenient package. Plus, the Type C port on my laptop (and my new rig) offers display out. Although, I could probably stream straight from my phone and for video - nah, I still jump off and browse the net at times.

Streaming straight from phone is a little disappointing because of content protections on external displays :( , so netflix is a fail, disney is a fail, sky is a fail, youtube is fine, paramount and amazon are too, real shame as it is otherwise very good, same problems with Dex, I would not need a low power PC if these companies didn't screw with apps in such a manner, Its annoying because I can download content on the phone apps and the glasses would be a perfect use case for travel but you can't download content on PC:duh:.

Just have to stop paying for legit stuff I can't use and pirate I suppose.... PC is fine for playing back everything. Not sure if iphone does this stuff better with apps and external displays, will try at some point.

Perhaps this is what the viture neckband would solve as the glasses would be the primary display in this case but I'm not looking to carry more crap and its an expensive thing to test if it does not improve things.

Been playing with it some more and I'm convinced the lack of clarity at the fringes for my is not my eyes but these glasses, possibly an IPD issue and my massive head is incompatible :D because if i move the glasses sideways it comes into sharper focus on what I though was a problematic eye. Still decent though.

So… I can only speak for the specs I’ve tried, and for reference: I have the Viture One, which doesn’t seem to be available any more (I got mine via CeX); @sandys has the Viture One Pro; and there is also the Viture One Lite.

And despite the protestations of $SEARCH_ENGINE_OF_CHOICE, it’s spelled Viture, not Virtue. Piss off Google, it’s not a spelling mistake.

I have a 32” curved monitor on my desk which is about 3 feet away. If I set up the glasses so that I can see the entire virtual display without moving my head around (because you can ‘zoom’ the virtual displays in and out with Viture’s software), then the ‘screen’ occupies slightly less space than my monitor.

So you’ll get a bigger picture than a 13” laptop, but it won’t be like hanging a 130” TV in front of you, despite what the breathless marketing might claim. More importantly though, the ergonomics will be far better.

If you go with Viture specs then I’d definitely recommend getting the Pro or Lite model if you want to do any sort of “head tracking” - you’ll appreciate the 90Hz and 120Hz refresh rates. If you’re happy with a static display hanging in front of your face then the non-Pro are probably fine. But as I mentioned, you’ll probably only find the non-Pro second hand; Pro and Lite, both of which can do 120Hz, are the only models on their website.

Viture have built-in diopter adjustment down to -5, so if you’re unfortunate enough to need reading glasses (hey, I’ve got to worry about that too!) then you should be fine. I have quite pronounced astigmatism in my left eye, which a diopter adjustment can’t fix; the glasses are usable without vision correction, but not very pleasant for reading text - better for videos & games. When I’m wearing contact lenses they’re great as a “doing real work” display, but I find that they lose tracking and the image drifts a little. Plus the 60Hz refresh on mine lead to some nasty wobbling & tearing with quick head movements when 3DoF is enabled.

And you’ll want the plastic lens-blocker thing. As good as the electrochromic lens stuff is - which, caveat, is not available on the Lite model - it can’t always block out ambient light/objects. Although in my case they never seem to stay on the glasses and always “pop off” eventually. @sandys can speak to whether that’s an issue for the Pro model. I’ve found alternatives that I can 3D print with flexible TPU filament, so I’m not too beaten up about it.

I’ve not tried them on an iPhone either - I have a pre-USB-C iPhone so I need an adapter - but the Android experience with Viture’s software is pure garbage. It’s a glorified web browser. I get why, because apps are supposed to be self-contained and not interfere with other apps, but it’s a crappy experience. Yes it works, but only if what you want to watch is supported in the embedded browser. IMO on Android you’re better off just using them as an external display mirror. A PC (or Mac, if they’re your thing) is indeed a much superior experience.

And I agree that the Neckband thing is a hell of a lot of money to part with for something that probably isn’t worth it. Though it would be nice to have some kind of x86 mini PC or SBC running on a battery to use with the specs, something like one of the LattePanda boards. I’m not sure what kind of GPU grunt you need for the 3DoF head-tracking; I’ve only really used that on my PC, work M2 Pro MacBook, and my Steam Deck, all of which have GPU grunt for days. Not RPi though because that’s ARM, and ARM is no good for software compatibility.

Nah, that’s not a “you” problem, that’s a lens problem. There’s fringing at the extreme edges of the display no matter what you do, and other manufacturers like Xreal have this problem too. Some reckon that the fringing is less pronounced on the Pro model but think the Pro model has worse brightness & clarity; some reckon it’s the other way around. You’ll never see for yourself unless you’ve got both and can compare side-by-side. Even the Bigscreen Beyond VR headset has visual artefacts as a result of the lenses, and they’re considered some of the best in the business when it comes to VR/AR/XR optics.

Thanks, B. That's quite the exposition!

I noticed the Google spelling suggestions too.
