We're on a 10Mb line and I've only seen it dip below 9Mb once since April, despite that fact we use the same servers as the student population of the area.

Limited by the crappy wiring in the flat. If we have the router in the main phone socket we get 20-24 down speed. But then we cant have it connected to the LAN in the flat and wifi speeds become the limiting factor very quickly. We have the pro account. 24Mb/s, unlimited usage, no throttling and a static ip. Its £21 a month but one of the guys here gets all sorts of grants as he's got a slight learning disability, as such it free, courtesy of the taxpayers of this great nation! :D

Any bandwidth-intensive files and I'll cross the road to uni where 150-250Mb/s is the norm, that's free too!

Orange suck ass and so does where i live. 2mb is the best you can get round here.

If i had done this at night it would be about 1.75mb/s, but this is midday.

    o2 8MB broadband.
Little brother playing CS:S nextdoor and is still fast. My ping is usually between 10-40 in UK servers and my connection never drops below 6MB, and i have had them for almost a year and a half

I might be wrong, if so please, someone correct me, but ISP's advertise in megabits but dont most download managers report the download speed of something your downloading as Megabytes?

I'm sure thats right which would make the maximum speed you've downloaded something as actually 28Mb/s (megabits) or 3.5MB/s (megabytes)

Think virgin has been playing with my broadband..

2mb package has suddenly jumped from an average 1.2mb/s up to ~5mb/s on average

I know they were boosting me onto a 10mb/s package, but its earler than i expected.

They will do eventually. Easy thing to check if you've been upgraded is to unplug the power from the modem for a minute then plug it back in. Once it re-syncs with the VM servers it'll download the 10mb config if you have been upgraded. Nothing to lose by trying :)

Moving into Vienna soon (living in a small town just outside Vienna at the moment) and will get myself a nice 50/5 or a 100/10 connection. At the moment I'm stuck with a 3-5/.5 connection.

College internet access, was fab until they banned access to rapidshare, however hotfile works, teehee

    :)

If i remember i'll do my home one, when im there of course

    EDIT:

just did the test with the Maidenhead server, here's the results

    EDIT:

    Did the test on the London server;

I think with the higher speeds the results are limited to the server they are using, and not your own connection speed. So its speedtest thats at fault, not us, if that makes any sense?

    :)
