nobody seems to know what the 9th is for, big discussion about it over at gateworld.net on the forums. When i say layers i mean sure its easier to build the outer rings as one piece, the inner ring as another and then the inner most as another and put them together afterwards? how would you have gone about it? And yes..the tools.... this is gonna cost me a fortune isnt it lol i dont really have any apart from a drill, never actually needed anymore
1, Make 9 cheverons seperate (with LEDs) 2, Make address ring as single piece. 3, Build rest of 1 side of ring in layers of plasticard, 4, Make a copy of ring. Use the plasticard to make a "plug" then make a mold of this. Something very interesing about the cardboard kit, the cheveron at the top is wrong, in the series it moves into the ring not opens up. In theory you could make it move but it requires a sutible sized cog and a moter.
OK, lots more questions! I realise this is a kinda intense first mod but i have no time scale so its all good! Right, chevron making, yup I can do that. Address ring, yeh i was gonna do that as a single piece, makes sense to, not sure if i should engrave the address bits or try and make some and mount them. making the rest of 1 side of the ring? i dont get what u mean there. making a copy, erm, why? and what do u mean by plug? and making a mould, again why? Not critising, just want to know and some one for godsake tell me what IIRC means lol its killing me! EDIT: OOO now i see why u say use plasticard! very clever!
Try engraving using You make oridginal out of plasticard and this is called a "PLUG" I ment face not side (you can only see one side of the gate at any time). take a mold from the plug and then you use the mold to cast a duplicate of the gate, thet way if you have an accedent you wont have to waste ages building a new gate.or more then one gate. lol IIRC, i know what irc is, lol i just see people saying IIRC on the forums alot. and i thought IRC was Internet Relay Client? What you would you recomend making the mould out of? plaster casting is always an option but are there others?
IIRC is a made up short form for If I Recall Correctly i believe. just stating that to end confusion.
thats confusing cus isnt there an IIRC IRC client nevermind thats why im confused. As to the cast - anything will do (even air dry clay and plasticine) just make sure you seal the surface.
Ok, a quick update, i've contacted a rapid prototyping company with regards to them making me a model, i've found an 3d modeler who will share his very good gate model with me so i can get a physical model made. Its done with lasers melting powdered plastic or something, i think you know what im trying to describe. Anyway im just waiting for a quote.
my resoning for voting for atlantis. the original was a better serise, but the visual impact of atlantis would be better
Im errring on the side of SG1, my reasons for this is that having the chevrons lit and then having the event horizon (dont know what im going to do there yet) light will be enough lighting, the atlantis gate would be too much in my opinion. I hate cases that are over lit becuase its an easy mod to do, that make any sense?
