Being reminded that the M25 exists, and that for some reason the "drive in the left hand lane unless you are overtaking" rule doesn't apply on it.

Applied for a balance transfer offer at 0% for 28months. I was preapproved for the balance I required but it emphasised it was never guaranteed. I went through the whole process of application to which I now need to provide ID by post to get the card delivered.

It gives me absolutely every detail of the credit agreement besides the available credit which is revealed when I get the card… So until it arrives will I know if the balance will be at all useful for the initial purpose when applying.

I’ve done it now so I might aswell commit. Just seems strange to me they’ve effectively accepted, but won’t just let me know the balance… I get they want you to get the card regardless and start paying interest.

Update - Got around to sticking a cotton bud up my nose.
That "convention crud" turns out to be full-blown COVID.

Seems like the latest iteration is kicking off at the moment.

Hope the worst side effect is just a temporary miserable feeling :thumb:

Last few days my sales have fallen off a cliff, its nice to go home and not spend my night packing stuff but its also incredibly demoralising when you have so many things needing money thrown at them.

Once more Laura has smashed her phone and once more I have had to buy a replacement from CEX and do a data transfer from a barely working phone. I can't tell you how many phones she's broken, I reckon at least six in the last eight years?

Still, the transfer process is pretty sleek once it's going.

Surely you need to invest in one of those "milspec" cases (even if it makes the phone about ten times its original size)?

Her last one went in the toilet so who knows. Still she's not as bad as her mother who dropped hers getting into the car and only noticed after reversing over it

Dog just bit my thumb whilst I was trying to remove something from his mouth. One puncture a little worse than the others which took a little wile to stop bleeding, first time he's done something like this, now trying to call 111 just to double check if I need to do anything and been on hold for 20+ minutes, more annoying than anything now the initial shock/pain has subsided.

I think as long as you keep it clean your fine. Just watch for any signs of infection, redness around the site, increasing amount of pain, swelling and becoming hot to the touch etc.

Yeah it's only because it's on my hand (thumb) that we're calling as the nhs site says to in that case. Not too worried just want to check what needs to be done (if anything). Hence the meh vs ruining my life thread :D

The family is currently stuck in York, an hour and a half away, 'cos the car's reporting an engine overheat.

This is around a month after I said "hey, that ticking sound at idle is new, isn't it?" and a week after it was LITERALLY IN AT THE GARAGE to have a tyre replaced.

Incidentally, the *last* car asploded 'cos Ceri ignored a problem I kept highlighting until it couldn't be ignored any more.

    <sigh>

(It's either going to be something really simple like the fan belt or something really expensive - and I'll be annoyed if it's the former 'cos that's something that could have been done so easily when it was having its tyre changed, and annoyed if it's the latter 'cos OMGMONEY. I hate cars, I really do.)

A fan belt!?! when was this car built, the 80's? I haven't seen a fan belt in years

The joys of being the person who knows things, and trying like buggery to not get drawn into the current 'family member needs help' drama.
Apparently my solution for getting 3 scart devices wired to a 2 HDMI input telly isn't sensible :sigh: I mean who still uses VHS for flips sake :wallbash:

What do cars have now instead of a fan belt, then? And... how much does *that* cost to replace?

    EDIT:
A quick DuckDuckGo suggests that the "fan belt" in my car is actually an "auxiliary drive belt," also known as the "serpentine belt" 'cos it weaves its way annoyingly through the whole damn engine. Symptoms of it being on the way out include a squeaking noise (not ticking, tho'), heavy steering, battery warning light... and engine temperature light.

But, yeah, a belt that, while it may not drive the fan any more, appears to be important for cooling the engine. If people still call VED the "road tax" then I'mma call that the "fan belt."

It could have a hydrostatic motor, but that's unlikely, most probable is a regular run of the mill electric motor which could run you from £50 to £200.
Or it could be a simple fix, blown fuse, dead relay or faulty temp sensor.
Of course this is assuming it's an electrical fault, check if it's lost coolant / has mayo on the oil cap and or the expansion tanks smells of fuel, if any of those apply it may be a bigger engine problem like a head gasket.

The car is in York. I, however, am not.

It's getting towed to the garage up the road.

It could be something, it could be nothing, it might just be down on coolant because of a small leak.

Turns out to be closer to nothing than something: recovery guy had a look, and he says the engine temperature is *fine* - which means the sensor's died and is reading an overheat condition that doesn't exist (just like you guessed!). He says it's fine to drive, other than the fact it'll be noisy 'cos the fan will be running full chat at all times and it won't let you turn on the AC.

Could have been a lot worse!
