That's also the title of a book and a simplified version of the liar paradox, a cornerstone of Logic. I reckon it wouldn't actually do much to a linguistics-based AI like this one. Cleverbot doesn't actually analyze the intrinsic meaning of statements and explore logical frameworks, as far as I can tell - it's more like a conversation generator. To "this statement is false" it would probably respond with something irrelevant but grammatically plausible, like "perhaps, but can you prove it?" It's a shame cleverbot is the most well-known exposed corner of AI. There must be more interesting things going on in AI research. Surely. edit - just tried it. It returned "This statement is true." It's just a ******** generator, constantly navigating roads of conversational viability with no regard for the actual semantic content of the exchanges. A grammar machine.
Or, condensed to the simplest form: This statement is false. Of course, once they do launch a more cognitive, logical AI on the net, this will be an easy way to break it in one move. Unless it's built with paradox-absorbing crumple zones.

Cleverbot Crazy no, you said you're on MTV. If I did, then why did you say I was 112 years old? It said that line (the 112 one) to me too last night! But only because I did call him 112 years old... LOL. I think that Cleverbot doesn't READ the replies, it hears them. So when the replies are read out in some kind of automatic voice that sounds weird and detached, the words sound different, so Cleverbot obviously gets the wrong meaning and misunderstands it. LOL.
