Scratch Build – In Progress Biohazard Computer Case Mod-Back Panel-I/O shield 10/18

You could use rectangular LEDs. They would just glue to the bottom of the floor. Just get a Small frosted plastic casing as if it were a walkway light to illuminate the floor.

On todays project Im going to finish up the railing system, front panel power connections,steam pipes and generator towers

The tools and supplies I"ll be using:

Size 11 xacto blade and meter box
.040 polystyrene sheets
Evergreen scale models V-Groove
Evergreen scale models 1/16 rod
Evergreen scale models 1/2 tube
Evergreen scale models strip styrene 080"x 080" 1/4 scale
Weld-On solvent cement
Insta-Cure+ cyanoacrylate (CA) gap filling glue
Modelers Putty
Staight edge, modelers square and ruler
Various models pieces


Lets Get Started!!​

Ill be using this strip styene for my railings.



I use my meter box to get a clean cut every time.



Just a little sanding is all that is needed to make each cut perfect.



I begin laying out my railings starting with the bottom ones first and checking for level ,then move on to the upper set.



I finish off the front and move around to the sides.







With the railing system installed I can begin working and the panel details.



Once again I start by working from the front then around to the sides.



I use pre-cut strip styrene from Evergreen Scale Models for this part of the build.



With the panel details complete I can begin building my support columns that will support each wing section.



I'll use 1/2 in tubing from Evergreen Styrene and a plumbing fixtures for this effect.



The hollow tubing is easy to cut and is very strong.



I"ll be adding to some steam pipes and valves to this section once I complete the putty and finish sanding. You can notice how raw the constuction is at this point but with some files and light sanding this will clean up beautifully.



These will be the support brackets for my steam pipes.



Here im using some round stock and 0.40mm sheet styrene scrape.



And a closer look.



Then I add 1/16 rod stock for support and visual intrest.



Here I've added the support brackets first with pre-drilled holes.I'll add the steam pipes later after Ive installed some other important pieces first.I need to account for my front panel power connection possibly in the area.



Adding some hubs for the steam pipes to vent thru.



Just making sure everthing is lining up perfectly.



A couple minor ajustments needed.​

Here I added some V-Groove , but not sure if Im gonna keep this part of the build. I'll add paint to it later and see how it all ties in with the final look.

Now Im starting on one of the generators using a couple pieces from a model kit,V-Groove and 0.40mm scrape styrene.



Here Im just dry fitting the pieces together to get an idea of how its gonna look.



With a little putty and some light sanding this will look great!!



Here I've add some steam pipes to the top and begin working on some larger steam pipes off to the side.



I"ll use these hollow tubes to carry my front panel power connections,USB and audio.





This would look really cool if I added some red LEDs to the top.



Or I can make up some of that green biohazard slug like I did in part 3 of my video worklogs and have it oozing out of the seams.





Now I'll begin construction of my front panel power connection using a piece from a sci-fi model kit and a old PC power connection.These two pieces couldnt be a better match.



I made a quick stencil of the power connecter and transferd it on to the model piece. Then I drilled out the small holes using a dremel for the HDD activity light ,power activity light as well as the main power and reset switch.



As you can see here the holes line up perfectly.Just some small sanding using a round file will clean up any rough edges on the holes.



Dry fitting the pieces together before adding glue.



Adding the LEDs thru the pre-drilled holes.



And securing them to the back with a little hot glue.



Now I'll begin constuction for the power connector to sit in.



Once again I use a V-Groove from Evergreen Scale Models and some scrape 0.40mm styrene sheet.



I use the same measurements as the circumference of the power connector to cut a circle in the V-Groove then lighty sand around the circle to allow for a snug fit.



Here I've added the power connector to the box,built a side structure and added some model pieces.



In this shot you can see the wires and pins for the front panel power.



I've add a small plumbing fixture with epoxy to the power switch for easy access.



And a look with it added to the structure.



The wires pass thru the tubes ,under the case and up thru pre-drilled holes to the motherboard. (which has not been purchased yet).



Now with a few LEDs this will sure look nice.



And a finished look

In my next update I'll be adding primer and paint and go into further detail about how to achieve certain paint and special effect weathering tricks.

Part 9 along with a couple weathering effect videos are in the editing process now,I made these vids specifically for you.
LazyMan from westcoastmods and I are still talking about the modders page as well.

I have a ton of ideas for the sides and the back of the case as well as the roof line.Im not going to be using the waterpump tower that I built in the earlier vid,Im going to bulid something similar that I can put insde of the case rather then the top.Design plans are always changing.

Thanks, I began building the front panel USB and audio hubs as well. They"ll be stationed in a small utility shack with a door closing off the ports when not in use.Thanks for all the nice comments everyone,your support is very kind.
