Cheers Cheaps Just a lil something i knocked up in the add break Thanks CP Heya Buddy thanks mate Thanks Kim I love the colour the more i put down the more i wanna see the whole case this way Cheers pcc The Blue is a "high fill" The primer was grey, the base primer for the primer was clear.. Paint wont stay stuck to plex.... even if the plex is sanded. It will still look bad. So some plastic primer is put down to help the primer stick. Then you can use the High Fill primer (Blue paint) You then sand that flat and apply more grey where and if needed then sand again if needed. Then put your paint down and sand again. Then clear coat (because this is metallic ) then sand again and then buff. It's a really long process if you want to do it right. But as i think you will agree the end result is miles above just spraying paint over sanded plex.
Today's effort was more sand paint ..... 3 days of sucking down paint fumes.... reminds me of my old amyl nitrate snorting days! After laying down some colour and some clear then letting it dry over night. The psu cover gets a quick light sand. This is to get the clear as flat as poss for a quick buff. Normally i'd let this sit for a week to let the clear go rock hard. But i wanted to see what sort of mirror finish i could get now. Looking promising, If i can get the whole case to look this good i'll be a happy camper. Happy with that i can get the last 3 sections under colour. A bit more prep work for the front panel and then some colour and clear cloat. Thought i'd take a sneaky peek @ how the black side vents would contrast! Then move onto some big stuff ! remember these ? That's pretty much all the players on the park now... I still need to wet sand and clear coat the top and back panels... prolly thru the week. Then i can finally start thinking about adding some hardware.
I like how you dropped that little tidbit like it's nothing. I just had a flashback to "blowchuckin/bedwettin" Bob. -The case is gonna be delicious.
Cheers MBM I really do struggle with pics... you really have to work to get the best out of a mobile phone LOL Slip em in see who reacts Cheers mate tyvm Oh man , it really does feel like a lotta work , But the end result says it all when you get great comments like these Cheers m8 tyvm INR!!!it was sooooo tempting to not go with the original plan....but ive had this one dream for this case for soo long now... But you have got me thinking Cheers mate tyvm I hear ya mate 4LIEN and yourself have me thinking
The next few posts will be a lot more of this stuff, but this is like the payday after months of slogging it out in the workshop for me So please indulge me will i keep updating with buffing pics Shots like these just feel so silly to take..... Dat shine!
"looks factory" is a phrase that can't be used here. Nothing that looks that good comes from a manufacturer.
Loving the attention to detail on this build, I actually thought those grey scale pics on the first page were milled aluminium panels, you certainly obtained a flawless finish. Makes me wonder for my future uses, if you could get a matt finish if it would look like gun metal anodised aluminium, although it does look really nice in that silky smooth gloss
Cheers Cheaps Now i know how Star Lord felt when they finally said his name right After 20 years and 20+ case mod builds that has been the goal Cheers riekmaharg2 if only i could work metal like that But again that was the plan . I did debate for a while weather to go with MATT Clear or Gloss. Woulda been a lot easier that's for sure cause buffing a shine onto a layered non flat surface has proved to be a real challenge. I have been busy! more buffing making small adjustments and fitting up.... i have 3 different side panels in the mix atm. Full tinted sides a normal type panel with window inserts and mini slim clears for the open look. Sneaky preview with the open style front panels it's been cold out in the work shop !
Great Work I feel like I just have to ask: Do you cut the Plexi all by hand? It´s hard for me to imagine this craftmanship but I´m only getting started since three years...So I see I have a lot to learn left Definately trying to use your way to finish the acrylic next time though
Cheers idpm tyvm mate Cheers DB tyvm, Same here buddy i cant wait too! sorta dragging on. I dont have a any automated machinery.... tho some times i think after maybe 30 case mods i should..... I do all my work by router to edge. Even a simple straight line i do with the router. Im too impatient and not skilled enuf to ever try and cut a line with a saw buy hand. Some of my older worklogs show the method, i tend to leave it out now as i thought most are sick of seeing it
Not much of an update soz ... but one ive taken way to long to think about. The mesh for the top vents is shaped and glued into place
